How much better performance will I get with the longer barrels. Will probably use 3" shells and would use the gun for turkey and waterfowl (short range coyote?). Is the short manueverable 23" barrel that bad for waterfowl, or should I use the longer 26"-28" and would that be a hassel for turkey. It would be the Rem 870. Also should I use 3 1/2"?
Thanks

This question is best answered by taking time to go to a patterning board with a few different boxes of shells and choke tubes.
You will be surprised at the results, I think you find the 23" barrel to be fine, but a bit whippy and that the longer barrels will swing a little more smoothly when waterfowling. If you go with something like KENT Faststeel (or anyone elses), you will have to open up the choke.
If you are hunting over dekes and from a blind, the short barrel with an IC tube is very handy.
Go to the pattern board, chose the best combo and do not look back!
Have fun!
