Even though I'm a big Remington fan,Savage has the market "locked-up" in out of the box accuracy...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I remember reading this topic when it was first posted.
The first rifle that came to mind was an Browning A-Bolt with Boss. Because you could fine tune the accuracy for any bullet weight.
The next gun right out of a box would be a Sako.

On the flip side, some rifles that seem to have mediocre accuracy will give amazing results with carefully worked up handloads.

SAVAGE has proved to be the BEST at "out of the box" accuracy. Any of the listed rifles will shoot good enough groups for MOST shooters. And many can be made real good shooters with minimum effort, or do it yourself adjustments.

fight4yourguns-Could you provide me with the source of the tests that have shown that savage is the most accurate out of the box bolt gun.I have heard a lot of heresay but have not seen one test that confirms this.

The guy that inspired me to buy a heavy barrel bolt gun had a stock Savage in .308 that would consistanty (meaning 9 out of 10 shots) hit golf balls at 200 yards with handloads worked up for a different gun (he had'nt had the time to begin working up a load for this rifle, because it was fairly new). Needless to say, I was more than impressed. Is it the most accurate NIB rifle, don't know. I'm saving for a .22-250 Savage heavy barrel varmint/target gun because of what I saw that one do, and bench shooting ultra-accurate rifles seems like a lot of fun.

Although it is not my favorite rifle, Savage has the most accurate production barrel made. If they could match the bolt and trigger quality to their barrels, nobody could touch them.
