Default Converting a Browning BAR to 35 Whelen?

Is is possible to convert a Browning BAR to 35 Whelen? Would you just have the existing barrel rebored or would you get a replacement barrel? If reboring, which would be better to start with a 30-06 or a 338 Win Mag? Where would you get a replacement barrel in 35 Whelen?

Thanks

A rebore would be best, and start with a .30/'06. Why would you even think of using a .338?? You don't want to have to replace the bolt too!!

I once saw a BAR .338 that was converted to .458 Win.!

Thanks for the response. Reboring a 30-06 does make more sense. I hadn't even thought of having to replace the bolt if starting with a .338.

BAR's in 30-06 come in a 22" barrel. Think22" is long enough for 35 Whelen?

I re-barreled one to a .338-06 about ten years ago. Very nice heavy timber elk rifle.

If you are going to make a 35 whelen or a 338-06 in your BAR your DON,T need to replace the bolt. They have the same head case based off a 30-06 cartridge. Just have your barrel rebored to the caliber. vangunsmith
