[quote][/I would guess that the .303 British (A Prototype) that RemingtonArmsmade in the Model 1903-type for Great Britain, (after war was declared) WOULD BE WORTH QUITE A BIT OF MONEY......
The initial production of the Rem Model 1903's are identical to the 1903 made by Springfield Army......Very well made as good as me custom built rifles.....Probably Worth Quite A Bit......
Than as the war went on Rem had to cut minor corners to keep up with demands for production.....
During the War, TWO, 1903A3's (modified 1903)Models were made by 2 different Companies...Smith-Corona (the Type Writing Company) and Remington...... I think Smith Corona had their name stamped on the barrel.

You are confusing the 1903 with the Pattern 14 rifle produced under contract with the Brits by Remington, Eddystone, and Winchester. Remington did NOT build 1903s in WWI...the only sources were the Springfield and Rock Island arsenals.
The Pattern 14 rifle in .303 was developed into the US M1917 (NOT P17 as it is sometimes refered to) in .30/06. The P14 andM1917 are Mauser based actions, but had some design differences. They cocked on closing, and the safety was moved to the side of the receiver, rather than being on the cocking piece as in the Mausers. The 1903 was a pure Mauser copy, and the US paid Mauser a royalty on the design until WWI started.
Remington built 1903A3 rifles in WWII. There were several design changes from the 1903, all to speed production and reduce costs. Most changes involved stamped parts where they could be substituted, and quite a few were produced with two grove rifleing, instead of the original four grove.

Charley....I don't know how you can tell me I'm being confused
when I didn't even mention what War or what year...
In 1939 some Model 1903 (Type rifles)were built in .303 British
for Great Britain...
These are probably worth money

Happy thanks giving guys..
Thanks for all the info.
I actually have 2 of these guns.. the other is a 8mm mauser..
where is the serial number on this gun? I am headed to camp tonight till saturday but will post the info when I get back... I will have to say that the action of this rifle is far superior to any of my model 700s or winchesters I own.

I have to admit, you made me go check my references. According to Canfield and others, the Remington 1903 for Britain project never made it beyond the paper stage. Production was never started. Perhaps a toolroom sample or two were made, but I've never seen any photos or other documentation of these. Do YOU have any?
I kinda think this is awfully confusing to poor old salty, he's asking questions while we're debating the angel/pinhead question!
Serial on the 1903 is on the front receiver ring. The 8x57 (8mm Mauser) serial should be on the side of the receiver ring, or on the side rail. The 8x57 is a Mauser, different from your 1903.

Ok guys, This is what I have as for info off of the rifle..
There are no serial numbers that I can find anywhere. I took the stock off and the scope mounts off to be sure.
under the front scope mount it says:
US Model 0?(drill hole for scope mount took out number)
1917
Remington
There are these strange looking half eagle head stamps all over the barrel and reciever that all have a different number under them. They say M1, M15, 3R and on the reciever it says 21, P
It also has these strange stamps on it that has 2 circles within each other and flames on top....????
This rifle does not have that huge stock like the 1903 models you are thinking of. It looks like a normal model 700 with a mauser type action. Is it worth anything? I am planning on making it my every day deer gun.. it is very solid.

sorry... I meant it looks like a 700 because of the stock. The gun does not look like the 1903 mauser with the long manlicher stock looking thing.. I will go take pics and put it on here
