How did I miss??? Please help
Whats up guys,
This is the first year in a long time I get to hunt with my rifle. Its a Remington 700 30.06 BDL,(180gr shells) I've had the gun for about fifteen years. Ayway, the scope is a Burris 6x 24 signature and the thing is huge! It was on the gun when I bought it. So I shoot at a buck yesterday and he just looks around, I shoot again..he looks around again LOL.
It gets dark and I look at my scope and it is set to the highest mark on the large end, the deer was no more than 130 yards, is this why I missed, the gun should be still on.
Plus I know someone is ging to say you should have gone to the range but it was a last minute thing since its a new place to hunt.
I'm guessing the scope should be set at 100 yards for that shot right? Or am I just stupid?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Sounds to me like you zero has changed. And yes, you should have check your zero at the range. Being in a hurry is no excuse to not properly sight in your weapon. You owe it to the animal to do you best to insure a quick clean kill. You could have justa s easily gotten a gut or leg shot as missing. Go to the range and check the zero.

id say the scope got monkeyed with or something and yes there is no excuse not to sight it in last minet or not. if you dont have it properly sighted you run a higher risk of wounding a deer instead of killing it
