Default Looking for new rifel cartrage

I have been shooting my trusty 30-06 for many years with great success. With it I have taken everything from Elk to squirrels.

I have been thinking strongly about the 30 WSM for an all around work horse. Any suggestions on other cartrages? opinions?

IMO, there's not enough difference between a .30/'06 and the .300 WSM to bother having both. What you need is something either a lot bigger, or a lot smaller, depending upon what you shoot the most often!! (Or, get the .300 WSM as a replacement for the '06!!)

Keep yore powder dry!!

My plan is to get a light short action rifel that is more pleasing to pack around. My 06 is great, but weight a ton. It really wears on you after a while.

Try a 7mm-08, it's lite and does real good on deer. Zeak

If you dont hunt elk that often consider getting something in the 7mm-08 range in a lightweight pakage, it will be easier on the shoulder carrying it and shooting it, keep the '06 for a couple elk hunts. or for a real lightweight package, a T/C encore hangun in 308 or similar round

I'd also pick something like a 7mm-08, 260 Remington, 6.5x55, or 7x57 mauser. They're all excellent deer cartridges that don't kick much and perform well on game and usually come in light weight rifles. Consider a custom rifle in the caliber of your choice.
