You’ll like the Birchwood Casey products. That’s all I use anymore. Their True Oil is a great mix and you can vary the sheen by the number of coats you use and how much you steel wool between each coat. This product dries within 3 to 4 hours so you can rub in another coat in the afternoon. Oh, and its goof proof. Use a little at a time on your finger and rub it in well. When dry, use their stock wax. Outstanding results.

I use spray on verithane. It has kind of a shiny look to it though. I cant use that tru oil stuff because it leaves streak marks , no matter what I do.

You are putting it on too thick. It only takes a few drops...rub it in, let it sit over night (depending on the temp, humidity etc) then sand or steel wool. This process can be repeated over and over until the stock looks the way you want it. From a satin to very high luster. You must have the patience of Job to do this!!!

Nothing looks better to me than several coats of linseed oil then a finishing coat or two of the Tru-oil. Heat the linseed oil up to where its just comfortable to work with. This increases penetration and makes it dry quicker. I have redone many stocks before I finally swithed to synthetic stocks.

Well guys I went with the Tru-Oil and it came out awesome! I lightly sanded between coats and got about 5 coats, it looks great. Thanks for the help! I'll post some pics when I get a chance. Now that I have the tru oil I think all my guns are in for some work after the season....

I have used both Tung oil and the Poly. The tung oil looks very nice. But if your taking the gun intothick woods for hunting ,I would go with the Poly. The guns I did in tung oil showed scratches much faster.

Birchwood Casey true oil. It seals and dries quickly and you can adjust the degree of gloss with multiple coats and steel wool. Finish off with Birchwood Casey stock wax.

I used the Tru-oil and gunstock wax also on a rifle I just refinished. It came out much better than expected. I used very fine steel wool inbetween coats and it looks better than new.
