Does anybody have any experience with the new 460? I am seriously considering this for deer hunting. I'm very intrigued by minute of angle accuracy, and a max point blank range of 260 yards with the 200 gr load. I read that recoil is comparable to a 44 mag. Is this correct?And are we talking about general 240 gr loads, or the max 300 gr loads. My wife is interested in one as well for deer hunting. And I think she could handle it if it is similar to a 44 with 240 gr loads. She has no problem shooting a compact 1911 45acp with +p ammo. And that has a pretty good snap when you pull the trigger. And, what scope would you suggest? I was considering aNikon Monarch 2.5-8X28.I have never owned a Nikon and am not familar with their quality. Thanks for any input.

I've heard that Nikon makes nice scopes. I haven't ever owned one, but as with everything in life, inspect it before you buy it. I would also imagine that with hotter hunting rounds you are going to have a serious recoiling machine. I'm sure if you practice with it you will be fine. I would definitely buy one first for you, and let the wife try it out, and then if she wants one from there you can get one. Don't run out and buy his and hers...or you might end up with his and his (meaning she wont like the recoil) and youll have to hunt with one on each hip lol...and those things are heavy!

I agree, she needs to shoot one before I buy her one. But I am starting to think it would be too heavy for her to handle well. The XVR with an 8 1/2" bbl unloaded with no scope weighs in at 4 1/2 pounds. Throw in a scope and ammo, and it will weigh 6 pounds. I think that would be a bit much. Thanks for the input.

I would consider the 454 Casull. It is extremely versatile and can be loaded as follows
45 Long Colt 250 to 400 lbs/KE
45 Long Colt +P 750 to 1200 lbs/KE
454 Casull 1600 to 2000 lbs/KE
The 45 Long Colt +P is about the same ballistically as a 44 mag but many feel it is more tame to shoot. That would be plenty to take on deer sized game. It also gives you the flexibility to shoot regular long colts at the range and step up to 454 if ever needed for larger game.

My reasoning with the 460 was because of the max point blank range. Sight it in at 200 yards, and hold dead on out to 250. And they are capable of minute of angle accuracy. You can also shoot 454 casull and 45LC out of it. But I really am starting to think against it. It is tough getting one, and they are expensive. For no more than I will be shooting it.

When you buy a giant magnum revolver recoil shouldn't be a consideration. Hand cannons have heavy recoil, and if you don't like that you will have to get it ported. There isn't a way to send a big pill down a barrel, chased by a big powder charge and not have recoil.
