Saw slightly used NEF Tracker today at a shop. 12 Ga.,Heavy Barrell, wood stock, fully rifled, scope base(no scope)...We've allseen 'em.Gun appeared to be in tremendous shape, with a price tag of $165, firm. I've been half-way in the market for one for a while, and I've shot oneand been very impressed. Mainly I am looking for something to use on stand in IL, and I can't decide on an NEF, or muzzleloader.
So I guess my question is, Is the price worth it as oppossed to buying the same model, NIB?
Or, just go ahead and by the muzzleloader, which I probably will eventually, anyway.

I paid $220 for my Ultra Deluxe used, and they are like 280 new at my local gunstore. And mine came with a few extra's. You can get the non laminated stock version for $185 new at wally world. I think they were $219 at my local small gun shop. So basically I got a deluxe for what the standard model would cost.

$165 sounds a bit high for that gun used to me. For a bit more you could get one brand new. Depends on how quickly you want it and how much cash you have on hand. I could have got one for less, but I didn't pay a penny for mine, it was all done with trade ins. I don't think walmart would have done that for me.
The gun would be worth it if it was in great condition however.

Yeah, I know an inline will cost more, but having one will open up more huntingopportunities in the future. That and i've never owned one.
The cost of the NEF new/used is no big deal. Around here Handi's need to be ordered,(which I've done with no hassle)unless you getREAL lucky and find one in stock at a small shop somewhere.
The gun I saw is NOT the ultra classic.
With the ML or NEF, probably wouldn't even use either this season, as i wont have sufficient time to get it ready for hunting, and just use what I have that I know works.

I was going to suggest that as well. However in order to do that you will need to get the 20 guage heavy barrel. If you get the 12 gauge heavy barrel you cannot add barrels to it except for a 10 gauge smooth bore. The recievers are different.
You are correct though, a muzzle loader would let you hunt longer because you can use it during gun season and muzzle loader season. Check the regs where you live though to see what the restrictions are for your ML season. In MI we really don't have any. However some states won't let you use an inline, or optics.
This will be my first year using a slug gun. I used a remington 700 ml prior to this. My ML seems a bit more accurate, but the the slug gun has more nockdown power. And if I work at it enough I should be able to find something pretty accurate as well. I just ran out of time and money to play with it. I think you have time to get a slug gun ready for season though if you have a place to shoot it. Well I don't know when your season starts though. Mine starts the 15th of Nov.
