If your talking deer hunting I would go with the 7mm-08 or 25-06. I have both and both are very effective even on the biggest Mulies. I have had 7Mags as well. No need for them what-so-ever for deer. As someone else said for bigger game I would skip over the 7 Mag to the 30-06. JMO. Any of the three will do the job.

I have been hunting sincei was 7 Have used the folowing 223, 243, 30-06 and then a 280 which i loved but was stolen. I like the feel of the tikka and like the look. I know 7mm is a good flat shooting calibur. If it is too much recoil for a light gun i would rather have something else for a rifle although i do like long flat shooting guns. I shoot a 3&1/2 12 gauge w/turkey shells but of course without a scope. Kick doesnt bother me too mucu but i want to be deadly out to 300.
Also considering the 270WSM but after reading your post i am leaning towards 7mm-08 since have heard nothing but good stories about it

Go with the 7 mag ,been shooting it for over 20 years, a awesome round. Not too much for deer either. I own a tikka t-3 ss/syn and could not say a thing bad about it. I would strongly suggest you get one.

I meesed up on my earlier post the last reference to the 7mm-08 not being worth the extra weight and recoil should have refernced the 7mm rem mag. Please, take it from the experience myself & other s have told you; There is no need for the 7mm rem mag for deer period. You will have more fun, a lighter weight gun, cheaper ammo, dead deer, short action and never develope a recoil flinch with the 7mm-08. Taking the gun out to the plains and shooting the 300+ range target side by side with my brothers 270WSM proved it to both of us. Elk may be a different story, but why limit yourself to one gun. Get game specific guns with game specific loads!! Me, I will be getting a 30-06 next year for elk. Not that the 7mm-08 wont kill them but I want to be able to shoot 200 grain pills at elk
