top choice out of 3 25-06 7mm-08 or 7mm mag
Just wandering for all the owners out there what your take is. I am buying a new one and looking at Tikka T3. Do you think the 7mm Mag will kick that hard with a light gun
Thanks |
RE: top choice out of 3 25-06 7mm-08 or 7mm mag
The .25-06 for pronghorn, deer, sheep, caribou.
If you were hunting Elk, Moose, Grizzly Bear, and Brown Bear I would go heavier than the 7 mm Mag -- perhaps a .338 Winchester Magnum. I would use this same cartridge on Goat. Thus, I don't see what niche of big game hunting where the 7 mm Mag bests the .25-06. But this is just my opinion, and I acknowledge that I am not an objective judge of this issue -- I have a .25-06 and I love it!!! |

I'd go with the 7mm Mag.

I vote 7Mag. They really don't kick that hard....about like a 180gr '06 load. Remington's big 7 is still "King of the Hill" and easy to reload for tite groups, a long ways out there. I own a Tikka White Tail Hunter in 7Mag and just love the thing! I use the 140 gr Nosler BT for deer. 5 star rating! Regards, Rick.

i'm an employee at Remington arms at the mayfield complex where most of the Model 710's are made and i would have to say you cant go wrong with the 7mm Mag.

Welcome superslam.
For myself, out of those 3 choices, it would of course be the 7mm Mag. What othercalibers have you shot? Are you aware that this caliber will have a noticeable amount of recoil? |
RE: top choice out of 3 25-06 7mm-08 or 7mm mag
If your concerned about recoil, then the 7mm Mag wouldn't be a good choice for you. It packs a much heavier wallup than the 25-06 or the 7mm-08. In hunting situations it wouldn't matter much, but if you like to spend a little time at the range then you'll notice it. My vote is for the 7mm-08 for deer or like sized game.

RE: top choice out of 3 25-06 7mm-08 or 7mm mag
Having owned and shot the 7mm rem mag and the 7mm08 rem I have tosuggest the 7mm-08. It is the most fun I have ever had with a gun. It is a flat shooter and real fun to build confidence with as it doesnt kick much. Mine is a kimber 84m and only weighs 5.5 LBS but it is well designed with a very straight stock & pachmeyer recoil pad. The chances of needing whatever advantage you will gain with the 7Mm rem mag are about zero for deer, and for me even elk. In the 30+ years I have deer and elk hunted the farthest shot I have taken on deer is about 220 9no problem for the 7mm-08. The longest for elk has been about 150-170 yards-again, no problem for the 7mm-08 spitting 140 grain Hornady light magnum interbonds. The 7mm-08 in my experience just wasnt worth the extra length, weight and recoil of the firearm. The 7mm-08 shines with a light rifle and a 22" barrel. Ammo is relatively cheap and very available these days.
