Well, I went ahead and ordered a gun from Wal-Mart. Got the Tracker II in 12ga. Decided to go with the 12ga so I wasn't mixing guages of ammo. Thought I'd invest in a good recoil pad to tame the kick with my savings and try to stay with 2 3/4 non-magnum ammo as well. Do you think this set up will allow for some good shooting w/o wild recoil? If I were to add weight to help further, how would that be best accomplished? Thanks!

Well Glen, there's no need to spend another dime on another recoil pad. The pad that comes on the Tracker II is top notch. With 2-3/4" ammo (even 2-3/4" mags) you'll be well equipped.
I am anxious to see how the SB1-014 performs for you. And out of curiousity; what'd you pay for it?

Get one of these for it. Kick Killer I have one that I switch from rifle to rifle and it works great. Just put it over the pad that is already on the gun.
As far as weight you could get the steel bar that comes in the Ultra's if you want. Or just find out the diameter you need and get some bar stock from a local machine shop or something. The mercury filled Benelli recoil reducer will fit as well from what I hear, but they are like 50 bucks. Some put lead shot in a tube or pipe, that might be a cheaper whay to go. Just take off the recoil pad and put them in the long hole that runs thru your stock.
As far as the ammo, from what I have seen and read there is not a huge performance increase when going from 2 3/4 to 3 inch shells in modern slugs. I honestly don't think they kick that bad though. I can never understand why people complain so much about them. I would rather shoot slugs than turkey load or high powered rifle, and I won't even talk about the 3 1/2 inch turkey loads!
I think you did well for yourself, let us know when you find some shells that feed well thru it. My Ultra slug gun actually likes the cheap rifled slugs. You just need to clean the barrel evert 4 shots or so. If you don't the accuracy goes to hell fast. But the first three shots out of a clean barrel are great.
Oh, make sure you take it apart and clean it VERY well before you shoot. Get some pressurized air or cleaner and spray the crap out of it. From what I understand they have a lot of metal shavings in the action and stuff from the factory. I got mine used, so it wasn't an issue.

I would put a good recoil pad on it. I don't like slip on pads unless you remove the
recoil pad 1st. Slip on recoil pad's add length of pull if the are pulled over a existing
pad. I will 2nd it, by saying turkey loads kick worse the slugs. Even with the recoil reducer in my HEF 10ga turkey gun, turkey loads are burtal.

He got the rifled version. The Tracker II has the fully rifled barrel with iron sights on it. They are lighter than the Ultra's and can use different barrels later if you have have them fitted. And you cannot mount a scope to them.
Because they weigh less they tend to kick harder.
