From what I have read here it sounds like Magnum fans have more problems with people who don't use them than the other way around.

bigcountry,
Thank you for pointing that out. You are absolutely correct. I have yet to see magnum fans deride standard calibers, but have as you said, seen it the other way. Maybe they have some sort of envy that their cartridges or something elseisn't longer?

Shoot I like venison so much more than beef I don't even marinate it or cook it with anything. Just some light olive oil in the pan and leave it pretty bloody for me. And venison chilli. Don't even get me started.
You don't see venision more often in restaurants because of the meat yield. Low yield, increased cost.

B.C. I don’t find it shocking at all. Some like to go for the sport and the chance to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and hunting is the way to do it with friends. They may not like the meat and might like to give it away. I know of a few hunters like that. Others will go for the meat. Either way is fine with me.

I have always liked venison. I have always ESPECIALLY liked Elk....that's good stuff ! Many people just find it too "gamy" or "earthy" tasting. To each his/ her own. I look at it this way...if someone doesn't like venison (any particular wild game)....that's just more for me.

Many many times if you recommend a standard cartridge you will get the old story about how the 270 or 30-06 will just wound game like elk and moose and other than DM you won't see many others considering the 30-06 for Grizzly. The 270 and 30-06 fall out of the running for most when Elk are in the picture even though they are two of the better cartridges available for that work. I have caught a lot of flack for using the non Magnums for game bigger than tiny whittails.
. Thats ok though because I have been using the 30-06 all over hell since 1956 and unlike some, I know what it will do. I havn't seen much it won't do though. Same for the 270. Its not like I havn't tried most of the Magnum cartridges as well. I had the Magnum bug for a while. Now that I have used them both a lot, I have gone back to the old standards.Like Me.
.
A lot of people who don't like venison are the same people that drag fish around the lake all day on a stringer on the surface in the sun and say that fish stink and don't taste good. NO LIE?
