Checked out a Browning A=Bolt and a Kimber today both in 300 Win Mag. Kimber was too front heavy for me and kinda unbalanced for my shape. Browning was nice kinda close to the Model 70. I have trouble hunting with a gun made in Japan so I'll probably end up woth the Model 70.

Does a cheek piece do much on the stock? It makes it more comfortable for me. Any recoil effect?

Ref. cheek piece, no effect I have noticed, and I have rifles with and without.

Have you looked into a Ruger 77MkII, or the Remington 700CDL ? Nothing wrong with a Mod.70, but you might want to check these out also.
Another worth looking into, though a bit more$$$, isthe Sako.

lol STD I don't wanna hurt your feelings but the same people that own Browning own Winchester firearms as well. And they are an "interesting mixture" of corporate partnerships... French and Japanese! LOL I don't mind the Japanese NEARLY as much as I literally DESPISE the French!!! [:'(]

Just thought you should know,

Bummer....Looks like it will be another trusty Savage. Isn't anything other than Knight Rifles and Leupold truly American anymore...[:'(]

Tikka are light for me for that caliber. I don't like any Remington guns because of a very bad experience I had with one and the companies response.

here in alberta the 270 is by far the most popular cartridge. 300 will do it all with authority. any good 3-9x40 or 4.5-14x40 is also a good choise.

300 ULtra Mag!!!!

Savage makes a 300 ultra Mag or did at one point.I will get everyones goat but saying.Magnum,Magnum Magnum,if recoil is not a factor it is one of the best wide open guns around.

Hey Gopher...at how many yards do you prefer the 14X over the 10X scope?

Leupold is not all american made anymore either as they now import some components. I think Burris is all american made but you never know anymore
