I don't like Hastings because they don't have matte finishes on their barrels.
I have the new Remington 23" "Super Slug" barrel with a matte finish. I would take the matte finish and an inch shorter barrel. Not all deer are going to be sticking their tongue out at you at 150 yds. I would rather get the matte finish just in case a deer came in close, I wouldn't want it being spooked. Just to keep in mind if you have a Remington 12 ga. and want probably the best cantilever barrelfor just out of the factoryguns.

Please read the entire post before responding. Goose stated he has a 20 ga. and that he wants a cantilelver scope mount. He goes on to state that remmington doesn't even make one. He then correctlypoints outthat the longest 20 ga barrel Rem makes is 20 in.
That makes everything in your post pointless.
As far as a deer detecting the difference between a matte and a blued barrel....I'll leave that discussion for a seperate post as I don't want to get off the topic.
Congrat's on the barrel you picked though. If Ihad to hunt deer with the 870 that would be my absolute first choose in barrels.

Oops. I forgot that he had a 20 ga. I said it was for those looking for probably the best canitlever barrel out of the factoryfor their Remington 12 ga, I wasn't directing it toward Goose.
To correct Goose, Remington's 20 ga. cantilever barrel is actually 18 1/2". The 20 ga. fully rifled barrel w/rifle sights is 20". If you want to look, here's the link:

That is the slug gun I have, which they make in a 20 too.
As far as Bacon having a matte finish on his hastings, I have only seen the hastings barrels for sale in Cabelas. I didn't see them offer the matte finish, so I assumed that was it. I guess I am wrong.
Here is a link to the rating that Outdoor Life did on the Remington 20 ga. slug gun if anyone is interested. Outdoor Life claims this 20 ga. to be an SPS "Super Slug" gun, they are wrong. Remington's "Super Slug" gun get's the name because of the 23" barrel, which is only offered in the 12 ga. None-the-less, it's about the rating of the 18 1/2" barrel.

Once again you are missing the point....Goose already has a gun. He is just lookingfor an aftermarketbarrel. Remington does not sell an aftermarket 18 1/2in cantilever barrel. They produce a gun with one on it, but as Goose correctly stated, they don't sellone. The only 20 ga they do sell is 20 in and has no cantilever scope.
This is the link you needed for remington aftermarket barrels

In other words jcc, why are you so compelled to defend so much to total strangers the stuff you own? It seems so important to you.
Somebody asks a question, people reply, including yourself, somebody reply isn't in line with yours, you seem so compelled to debunk them. Especially with slugguns.

Perhaps when you get a chance you might post something relevant to this thread. Clearly your personal issues can't be the only reason why you joined this thread. Or do you really have enough time on your hands to make mutiple posts solely for the purpose of disrupting this subject and the board in general?
