primarily yes. and to make a comment that it seems like even very experienced hunters have a wide range of opinions on the correct or perfect cartridge. I was confident that no one would think i was serious about tryng to decide between a 243 and 460..oops.

interesting post regarding the 223. Since I have a 12 year old daughter who is not fond of the 30-30 recoil although she will shoot it, I would love to have a more mild kicking cartridge for her. Is this a good deer cartdrige for us here in WV?

I hope I dont stir up a huge hornets nest with this

My sis shoots a 222.She killes deer every year.She is 18 years younger than I am.And very small framed. but I would piot her to a 243 good deer killer with little to no kick.

Elk, the question is what is Ethical, not what will kill.
I can kill a 2200lb Holstein Bull with a Forehead shot with a 22lr,
but is ethical to use it on deer?

You must understand that last week we had a guy comparing his 243 to a 257 Bob and a 25-06 and everything in between. His argument was that velocity meant everything. I assumed you were poking fun at him as we all have been. I posted the comparison numbers because I found it amusing that the velocities between the 460 and a 243 were virtually identical at 500 yds. Just having a little fun.:D Down here in Alabama, we may be a little redneck but we don't use 460's on deer.;) Nor do we compare a fine little deer cartridge to an elephant rifle just because we like the cartridge.:D Sorry I misunderstood your intent. Just joshin' with ya;)

As I stated I would not and will not let my little ones shoot deer with my familys old 222.

I knew you were just messin. I took it that way and yeah while doing some research I saw the back on forth posts on the 243. It was pretty darn funny IMO.

You were correct on your very first post on this topic. Tere are opinions and there good cartridges out there, some better than others, but there is no mythical cartridge for everything, nor is there a perfect deer rifle for all conditions. IMHO, the 270 and the 30-06 come as close to the best deer cartridge as I need.( I prefer the 270), but everyone has to make his/her choice and noone can tell you what your favorite will be. Only opinions, some good, some bad. Good luck. I've never gotten tired of searching for the "perfect rifle" although my wife sure has.:D
