What kind of gun did you get and what barrel length? I'd shoot a heavy bullet like the 300gr. and shoot a soft point bullet instead of a hollow point for better penetration. Also lots and lots of practice at varying distances to better learn how this round will perfom and you'll gain confidence in your abilities.

any good 240gr or heaver will work. i do not like hp for a hunting hndgun. up untill resntly most hp were for diffence gns pople not hunting. some ammo companys havestarted making hp disined for hunting so on of them would be ok on deer. i had rather have a jsp o hard cast on the hogs or bear. on the bear i would go with the heavest i could find 300gr +. a 44 mag will handle most handgun hunting fine.i hv used 357 and 45 longs on hogs and deer. with no prolems the 357 with 158 gr jsp and the 45 with 255 and 260 gr hard cast.

BH4life, Like others said use a good sp as they are better for penetration especially hogs and bear. Speer make a gold dot that is fantastic for any of them. It comes in either 270 or 300gr. That is if you reload. If not then federal makes some good stuff for hunting. Well you are just getting started in handgun hunting and it is like bow hunting Very addicting. I just stepped up and got a true hunting handgun. Its a Dan Wesson 445 supermag. Just to let you know that what you are trying to do can cause you to sell the long guns and get a real top quality short gun. You do have a great gun in that SW but you can't load it hot for long because the gun wont handle it for long and you don't want to be near it when it lets you know. So if you reload try to keep it under max and you should have a fine gun for a long time. I love handgun hunting and you will to but just be for warned that it is very addicting and you may just get bit. Good luck and remember to keep practicing.

basically load a good, hp for deer, i personally like the hornady XTP, in my .357mag, so i think any XTP from 240 to 300gr. thats for deer anyway, a 300gr might be ok for bears and hogs, but a heavy SP or a hardcast would probably be a better choice
