Default RE: 44 magnum for hunting...

BH4life, Like others said use a good sp as they are better for penetration especially hogs and bear. Speer make a gold dot that is fantastic for any of them. It comes in either 270 or 300gr. That is if you reload. If not then federal makes some good stuff for hunting. Well you are just getting started in handgun hunting and it is like bow hunting Very addicting. I just stepped up and got a true hunting handgun. Its a Dan Wesson 445 supermag. Just to let you know that what you are trying to do can cause you to sell the long guns and get a real top quality short gun. You do have a great gun in that SW but you can't load it hot for long because the gun wont handle it for long and you don't want to be near it when it lets you know. So if you reload try to keep it under max and you should have a fine gun for a long time. I love handgun hunting and you will to but just be for warned that it is very addicting and you may just get bit. Good luck and remember to keep practicing.

Brian
