Default Matt...Flourocarbon?

Whats your make on the stuff. I have a ton of tapered leaders and leader material. Everyone is really pumping the stuff is it really worth the cost? I havent used it and have fished as well as the next guy using it so I am having a hard time justifying it. I am sure there are places it will work better like out west on the high pressure places or when the salmon are getting really touchy feely with all the pixies and vibrax's around.......so whats your make?

I use Berkley vanish,it seems kind of stiff but I only use it for leaders in clear water..It's invisible..

Lil'
I'm sold on the stuff, it works, but like you said........THE PRICE!!! YIKES
I've heard that not all is created equal however and unfortunately I haven't used enough different brands to know which is best.....

I got lucky the other week at a Sport Show where they had Orvis Florocarbon tippet material for $4 a spool.....Do you think I got any?? I haven't tried this brand yet, but will give it a workout this spring and summer.

Anyway......What cball mentioned about the Berkley Vanish is an interesting thought......I considered it about a year ago and never did after talking to some guys who have tried it, I can't remember why exactly they didn't like it for Flyfishing applications, but they didn't.......something about it not being the same as the pure stuff specifically for flyfishing.
I may still give the Vanish as tippet a try this summer on Smallmouth Bass.

I think the best stuff I've tried is "Seagaur" Florocarbon tippet.......

Pay attention to the price vs. amount on the spool as well! I don't think a single manufacturer puts the same amount on a spool.
I've picked up various spools thinking they were a bargin at $7.99 only to find out there was 20 meters on the spool!!

What I would do if I were you is one of 2 things.........Buy a Florocarbon Tapered leader in the size you want to try, and get a spool of tippet to build off the end if you are fishing mostly streamers/buggers /leeches etc.etc..

Or just simply get a spool or 2 of the stuff and just add a nice long tippet section to your leader if you are mostly going to be nymphing.

I use it mostly for trout fishing high pressured fish here in PA and I use a leader that is mostly regular nylon, with 2 tapered down tippet sections. Especially when nymphing.

Don't forget too.....Florocarbon has a lower strength rating for the same diameter as nylon does, and tie your knots carefully as it is a little tricky at times to get a good strong knot.

Give it a try......for all the other crap we spend money on, what's another $10?

I also noticed that on the costs VS how much is on the spools.

I was thinkn of gettin some from Bass pro as they seem to have a few different kinds and the costs were fairly resonable.

What do you think about that sage backing? I am using the typical braided type I think the Sage stuff is a filament type, cant remember but I did notice is cheaper by a few bucks and ya seem to be gettin a ton more. I'll look the name up in a bit....

speaking of knots.....like some of the other materials, other then mono....is there a recommended not with this stuff? I guess it sounds kinda dumb being I have used mono almost since I began with going to fireline last year learning to use a different knot as the preferred knot of choice as opposed to standered fishermans or trilene knots.....?

the reason that I think that flourocarbon line would be most effective in deep clear water is that in stained or muddy water line color makes little difference. Ive fished in deep clear lakes before like strip mines, and in trout lakes in colorado and the fish would be very line shy. I didnt have flourcarbon line on my reels but I went from 10lb pound test down to 6lb and caught alot more fish. The smaller diameter made the difference.
