did some looking, an bowfin is the same as an eelpout is the same as our burbot.

dunno mudfish...I heard from folks up here and also in northern Mn that eelpout were good eatin....they call it the poor mans lobster! I wouldnt be suprised if they are different fish but from what I was reading they sure sounded and looked like the one and the same!

well dang, they sure sounded like they were the same from what I found LOL! Now one of these few days I need to learn to burbot fish.....or was it bowfin..no burbot <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>! Thanks for the info!

ABM, I heard they are about as bad as a rutting `bou! With all the other kinds of fish you have to choose from up there, I would pick something else for the table. Hows the little one? Must be a year by now, my son's first is in three weeks(thats how I remembered about yours)

ive herad gar are excellent table fare is fixed right but i cant eat them becuase of water contamination anyways but carp are a delicacy in qurope and im sure they could be great to if fixed right

Eelpout are a great! Cut out the back straps, boit pieces in some crab boil, dip it in butter. Mmmmm just like lobster!

MA, on the 7th she'll be a year old. Feels just like yesterday she was born though! Man it goes quick!

Thanks for the info guys, still don't know if I'll get the chance to go bowfishing for these guys yet. If I cast some lures in the water, it will probably be for something else.
