You'll do a lot better with minnows in that pond than crawdads from my experience. Crawdads normally live in running water and as such aren't that good a bait for still water. I'd justtry the ol boober with a minnow hooked thru the lips.

if you can find soft shell crayfish then you will have trouble keeping the fish off of your line. The idea the crayfish only inhabit moving water simply isn't true. They can inhabit all freshwater bodies of water. Just look along the shore for burrows that signify your pond/lake has crayfish. As far as fishing crayfish a lot of the oldtimers crush the big claws. It does 2 things... makes the crayfish unable to grab onto thingsdefend itself and it releases more scent.

The old timers in Florida taught me to hook the minnows or shiners through both lips..They live longer and I catch a lot of fish that way.I use as small as a split shot as I can find..The bait fish needs to swim freely..I use a bobber but try to fish close to the botttom..

i'm one of them ole timers and i put the hook thru both eyes of the minnow..most of the time i use grass shrimp for bait ..all kinds of fish will go after grass shrimp..

Basically anything that lives in your pond will eat both. I have caught 20+ pound common carp on crayfish. Even a large bull bluegill would eat a crappie minnow. Remeber the bigger the bait the bigger the fish you will more likely catch. (Though some of those little 8" bass think they can eat some pretty big baits!)
