For the crawdads, use a jig and a nightcrawler. They can't resist that. As for the pond, crappie minnows and a slip bobber. Nuff said.

man yesterday i caught a huge cat by accidentally droping in some bread into our pond and then casting my line out with bread and salami wrapped in it and it took it in like 5 seconds after putting it in the water

You put the minnow on the hook..... not that difficult. Except i hook it as close to the end of the tail as possible and then once more in the tail. That way it can still flop around and move and you won't kill as fast. The movement really helps.

And pretty much anything under the water will try to eat craws and minns. I like fishing minnows hooked through the nose, with no sinker (free lining). For crayfish, you could also try ripping off the tail, pinching the meat out of the exoskeleton/shell, and fishing with just the meat on a jig under a bobber. This is how I fish perch on Lake Michigan and also time to time for other panfish on inland lakes.

The old timers in Florida taught me to hook the minnows or shiners through both lips..They live longer and I catch a lot of fish that way.I use as small as a split shot as I can find..The bait fish needs to swim freely..I use a bobber but try to fish close to the botttom..
