Years ago I had a downrigger boat and used Maxima exclusively for Lakers and Salmon. Now that I graduated to bass fishing I use Berkely Trilene XL for most of my rods. I haven't tried iron silk yet but plan to give it a try soon based on some of your recommendations.

For a trip such as you're talking I would use a Trilene 8-10# on spinning reels or 20-30# powerpro or fireline on casting rods for Northerns.

I'm probably gonig to be the only one here to say it, but you couldnt pay me to fish with IronSilk. I think the stuff handles like crap and overall just sucks. XT, XL, and Sensation are much better lines. IronSilk has always been kind of our joke when my fishing buddies and I talk about line and stuff. I've never had any success with it, and don't see what's so great about it. Just my .02
