this may seem like a dumb question but i know a texas riged worm works good for largemouth but will it work just as well for smallmouth? also has anyone used the hellgies from lunker city, if so do they work good? if not do you think they would work? http://www.lunkercity.com scrool down on the left.

thats a good question actually. Yes, they will take a Texas rigged worm. However, most smallmouth will not grab a 7 or 7.5" worm used by most largemouth fisherman. You have to downsize. The 6" Zoom U-Tail is a good size. I'd even say a grub on a jighead would work better. I Texpose my tubes for smallmouths, which is about 95% weedless, basically you T-rig but leave the hookpoint riding on the back of the lure. I really think a SM would readily take a tube, grub, fluke, or senko over a worm in this part of the country.

if you're looking for something from lunker city for smallies I would go with the hydro spider in a crawfish color. Any lure of this type is deadly on smallies. I've fished the susquahanna for the past 16 years and these type lures are one of the best you can throw.

spider grubs like bearklr showed are extremely effective on bronzebacks. they work on carolina rigs really well, although on a jig or texas rigged works too. Besides Lunker city, YUM makes one called the Gonzo Grub, which are awesome, Gary yamamoto makes one, but im having a brain fart on the name, and Kinami makes on called the Palm Tree i think.

They're best on a football jighead dragged on the bottom. Also, they're deadly on a Carolina rig. just don't use a flourocarbon leader, as it makes your lure sink instead of ride high like you want. Texas rigging works too, with a 1/0 EWG style hook or a 2/0 straight shank worm hook.
