Default Smallmouth Bass Lures -- can you give me a few suggestions?

Can you guys give me a few suggestions on lures for smallmouth bass? I am just getting into fishing for SM and there is just so many options and it is confusing. I will be fishing for them mainly in Vermont and NY state.

In Maryland I usedto catch them on shad darts. A small lead head jig with buck tail

Cast long...into deeper -moving water..let it sinkto the bottom andretrieve it back with a very consistant slow retrieve, 'also slowly raising and lowering the rod tip. at the same time.

most guys i know that fish for smallies use bucktail jigs, float and fly, and fat albert grubs, lots of finesse baits

here is a place you might get more area specific info

http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/reports/newyork/index.html

also we have a few guys here that could probably get you pointed in the right direction

good luck

depends on conditions. but make it very life life and make the bait seem aggressive but easy for the fish to get. and your set

I've always loved a #5 jointed shad rap in fire crawdad color. It's not very popular and I don't know too many who use them but I do pretty good. My other favorite lure is a hook with a leech on it.

Here's a link to it http://www.rapala.com/products/luresdetail.cfm?modelName=jointed_shad_rap&fre shorsalt=Fresh

It's the 4th one from the last.

I like using most anything from rubber frogs to crank baits, and I love those crank baits whipping across the water and having the water explode!

Nothing beats tube baits for big smallies
