Default ? Hand Ice Augers

I'm looking for a fast cutting hand ice auger. Everyone claims to be the best. Prices are all over the map. Anyone have any comparisons or reco's about Lazer or Mora or any other make?

Both work just fine. Mora's are cheaper but the benefit of the Lazer is you can reopen previously drilled holes with them and IMO the blades stay sharper longer. I have a Lazer and haven't needed new blades in 4 years now, my old Mora had to have new blades almost every season. Nils Master has a new hand auger out, I have never tried them out myself but have heard good things.

I have a 6" Nils Master but it is on a Tanaka power head. It came with a screw in handle for changing to manual. The cutting head is really different than all the other hand augers. I have cut hundreds of holes in 3+ feet of ice and it is still sharp. I tried it as a manual and it cuts ice like butter but we have over 1 foot of ice already and it is time for the power head. I have an old 5" Strike Master and a 6" Mora but neither can open a previously drilled hole easily. The lazer is better than the other two in my estimation.

My 7'' Lazer is one of the best investments I have made because it stays sharp and cuts easy. I would recomend it up to the first 1.5 to 2 ' of ice then it starts to be work.
