My favorite cartridges? Have to divide it into couple categories.
First, no way anyone should do without a rimfire, and for me it's the 22magnum.
For big game, I guess I'll go with the 270Win., followed closely by the 308Win.
For BIG big game, I'd take a 375H&H.

.280 Remington... I've used it to make clean kills on everything from woodchucks to moose...
Of course, there are dozens of other cartridges that would have worked as well ,but you asked me for my FAVORITE...

To really thhink about that question, i would say if all people think of it the most favorite cal. of all time would be the 22 LR. For most people sstarted oout with one and learned to shoot with one, and still do for ammo is cheap, and they still enjouy it. Thats my pick for everyone, think about it. vangunsmith

Wow alot of of votes for the .270 and .308 Impressive.
Although I have nothing against those 2 cals. I used them both and love them,I think the 30-06 has that little extra oomph.
The 30-06 gets my vote.
It is nice to see there is a 375H&H mag vote in here too.

EVERYBODY needs a .30-06, and MOST people need a .45 ACP.
If there's room for dessert I like 6.5x55 and 8x57 in rifles and 9x19 in pistols (for target work anyway.)
