Savage makes a single shot bolt gun not sur of Mdl but is comes in .223 and is price around 225 or 250.00 and is very acurate.
I buy that surplus Cabela's ammo for my .223 and it shoots well enough. If not Winchester makes some 40 gr HP's that are killers.

If you reload,my pick would be a 25-06 also,if you don't, the .223 is your best bet, ammo will be cheap...

I wouldn't get the 17 hmr for chucks here in Ohio they get huge and take multiple rounds to kill at short range
It took me and a friend 3 shots from his 17 hmr and 2 shots from my 22lr so you can see why people think it would be underpowered for yotes[&:]

get a 25-06 it will kill anything and if you feel like going to basically any state aroud ohio you can use it for deer

well sence you have a deer round in case you leave the state i would go with a 22-250. work great on chucks and will cost a lot less then the 243 shells and the 243 would rip a yote up pretty bad. also you could get a 223 which is about the cheapest to shoot and will perform simular to the 22-250 with less fur damage.

or if you want to try something new look at the 204 ruger. i was shooting one about a month ago and it was really neat. it would make a decent long range caliber 3-500 yards because you can see your bullets hit through the scope so it makes for easy adjusments

I've been shooting coyote for a good number of years now where I skin , scrape the hides to sell on the fur auctions here in Ontario.
The coyote here grows a nice thick winter coat thats fairly desirable on the markets . The .22mag is what I've used very successfully without the damage to the pelt and 100yd shots are normal distance.
The 243 is used alot by other "yote hunters , again 100yd shots , but I tell them to skin their own pelts with the big rip in them ...lol.

I use a 22-250 for groundhogs and predators. I've taken about 100 hogs, 5 fox and 1 yote.

Pelt damage is closely linked to your and shot placement. I shoot hollow points and ballistics, and it is devastating. My Coyote was nearly beheaded - same with most any other animal in its path. If, however, you are worried about meat/hides, you can tone it down to a bullet with a little more structural integrity and avoid shooting at bony areas.

I have a 12vss Savage - pillar bedded choate stock w/custom trigger and Swift 8-32x scope ($175). I have about $900 tied up in it - and it shoots rings around my friend's more expensive rigs. downside - HEAVY (but that doesn't matter, I'm usually lounging in a field reading a book waiting for a hog to stand up).

As noted above, Savage offers some really cheap setups with the new Accu Trigger. They really shoot - and the Accu Trigger will save you $75 bucks on a trigger job.

22-250 is good out to 300 yds, easy and even more if you have the right bullets and practice.

I think the 22 250 is a good round to use varmints. They are very flat shooting and if you reload they dont cost much to shoot. We use the all the time here.

Go with the .223 Rem, that'l do good on yotes and chucks as well as any other varmint. The best thing is that it wont break the bank either.I have the Savage Model 12fv in 204 Ruger, with the accu trigger, and I love it. But 223 ammo is definetly the cheapest if your going to buy and not reload.
