wood chuck and coyte gun????

I got a little money left that Santa didn't need.I'd like some help with the choice of a new gun for woodchucks and coyotes.I need a caliber that will reach out and one that won't break the bank buying bullets.I live in Ohio so I can't hunt deer with centerfire and I have a ruger 77 30/06

Thanks for your help,
lizzzard

Savage 12 in .22-250 Rem would fit the bill nicely. If you want even more range with a little heavier bullet, you could go with the same rifle in .243 Win.

I would go with a Model 12FV – with AccuTrigger™ link
in 223 . I would try Federal American Eagle AE223G ,it's a 50 gr hp that is accurate in my rifle and cheap to buy

222 Rem. or the 6mm Rem. Both very good long range calibers for chuck and coyote.

well if your shooting lots of chucks go witha 223. its cheaper to shoot and hits hard. a 17hmr would also fit the bill but most people will say its too under powered for yote but i know people that use it and havnt had any troubles if you keeps shots on yotes under 100 yards.

The popular varmint cartridges are 223Rem., 22-250, and 243Win. Couple other notables are the 220Swift, and the new 204Ruger.
Forget the 222Rem., and the 6mmRem. - both are good cartridges, but for all practical purposes they are becoming obsolete.
The 223Rem. would be the cheapest route. Ammo is plentiful at discount prices, including military surplus. However, the best varmint cartridge, IMHO, is the 243Win.
The 243 will do a far better job of bucking the wind at extended ranges than will any
22 centerfire. It's very accurate, and can be had in a number of varmint rifles from
any of the major manufacturers. Plus, it can do double duty if you must, as it can handle
larger game such as antelope or whitetails.

223; a wide variety of rifle models are available, normally very accurate, dozens of different ammo choices plus ammo is cheap and sold everywhere.

Look at the Savage model 12, it is very affordable and will shoot with just about anything out there, comes in several different calibers that would fit the bill for what you are needing, I think the Savages are not given enough credit, they are good shooting, reliable guns and don't cost an arm and a leg to buy. I think they are one of the most under rated guns out there.
