Default Morning Range

I wanted to see how the new Remington Premier Expanders 3" grouped compared to the Accutips 3".......Well I would say they grouped as well, just two adjustments made for both the Savage and the 1187, and I will make the switch as they are deadly on game.

that's some nice grouping from slug guns
My 11/87 I had a custom barrel made for it, and it too is a nice grouping shotgun NOW<
when I first got it, it was terrible, or was with the dozen or so loads I tried,so, I decided to invest some $$ and play with it till happy!
been a few yrs now however since I shot it LOL

I shoot 2 3/4 Accu tips in my Mossberg 695 and as long as I do my part, it'll spit out groups like your 20 gauge did. They hammer deer too, so I currently see no reason to change it up.

But those definitely gave you some good groups. And from the little reading I did on them it sounds like they should do some damage on whatever they hit.

Since Ohio started allowing straight walled rifles I only use my slug gun in some special regulation areas in Pennsylvania and special draw hunts in Ohio when I get drawn. Maybe a day or two each season. So I don't mess with it much anymore.

Man slugs and slug guns have come a long way since I started hunting over 50 years ago. Back then it would have been hard to get a one shot group like that...LOL. I remember a story my dad told me about my uncle shooting shooting a whole box (25) of "pumpkin balls" at a herd of deer up in Potter Co., PA way back when and not hitting a single one. Dad told me he was watching the slugs go downrange!
Money was tight back then so I imagine they were pretty old rounds.

They sure have come a long way bronk.

And I still see lots of people in Ohio hunting with smoothbore 870s, 500s and single shots. Which I just can't understand when there's so many other good, and cheap, options out there.

Their main reason is "I'm not paying $3 per slug to shoot them rifled barrel slugs"

nobody, at least very few, are shooting high volume slugs anyway!

I still carry a beat up old mossy 500 smoothbore occasionally when I'm on thick drives, just for giggles mainly.

Jake not sure if you ever tried them but Federal Tru-ball slugs shot great out of my 870 smooth bore 20" barrel. Not as good as the target above but accurate enough to kill a deer at 75 yards without a problem

I still have about 100 truballs piled up. I think next time I go to Florida for hogs I'll practice up with those and take the Mossberg 500 with me

I could never get a smoothbore with a bead sight to shoot any "good" not because they weren't capable I don't think, but because I've never been able to get a satisfactory sight picture using a bead sight.

Paper plate at 50 yards was possible, but not much more than that.

Some of the smoothbore barrels with iron sights would shoot ok though.
