I don' t know much about the High Points but I think I will have to agree with Danny...don' t buy it. You might have to pay more for something else but you will be a lot happier. Ruger makes a good hangun and so does Rossi. I have one of both. If you have the money get you a good Smith. I have the Mountain Gun made by Smith and it is a great little gun. Good luck!

I bought a Hi-Point .380 at the gun show a few months back. I only bought it because it was cheap, and it was for my girlfriend. She never shot a gun before this, so I figured it was cheap enough for her to try, and if she didn' t like it, owell. Anyways.....the gun likes to jam. I think it' s all in the magazines though. The mags themselves jam after loading 3-4 rounds into them. I have 2 mags sitting on the monitor waiting to exchange them. Besides that, the gun seems to be a decent plinker. Unless you decide to clean it. It is THE MOST frustrating thing to strip down. I had to beat the pin thing out with a 3 pound hammer. Getting it back together isn' t too fun either. If you have the $, get something else.

Save your money and buy a decent gun. These HighPoints have never been anything to write home about. There are so many better guns available.Depending on the price range you' re looking for.I' m hooked on Ruger' s.At one time I liked Smith' s.I no longer buy any Smith & Wesson product.
Browning,Sigs, Glocks,Rugers and Taurus are all excellent makes. But they will cost more then the HighPoint. If you want it just for plinking that' s one thing. A jam or misfire won' t really matter. If you want it for self defense I say no way.I won' t put my life in the trust of a unreliable gun.Use your own judgement,There are somethings you just can' t put a price on and your life is one of them.

Another vote against the Hi-Point. Have owned one, and shot many. Not worth the trouble. If you must go cheap, get yourself a Bersa .380 or a Charter Arms .38 spl revolver. No, these aren' t the best things on the market, but they don' t cost a lot more than a Hi-Point, but they will serve you much better.

Don' t forget, if you have a good dealer in your area that you trust, you could always go used. I would suggest a good cheap used gun over a brand new piece of junk any day.

My dealer sells allot of these Bersa' s JJ mentioned.Supposely these are a very reliable semi Auto.I personally have no experience with them but from what he says they are hard to beat.Speaking of the Charter Arms (Undercover)38spl.I' ve had one for many years. It at one time it was my carry gun(truck gun).Very reliable revolver. For occasional shooting they hold up well. If you want a gun to shoot often I would find a heavier framed gun to withstand the constant shooting. If you want a strong small framed Revolver look at the Ruger SP101.
Some people like the 380. I like something a little hotter to carry for personal protection. Ruger Redhawk
