I am placing my Ruger M77 7mm Rem Mag up for sale tomorrow and am considering getting the XCR to replace it a couple of years from now. There is nothing wrong with the Ruger, I just do not have the use for it right now and am considering sticking with Remington in rifles and shotguns. So how does the XCR stand up? Those who own one or had experience with it would you give me a review?
Thanks

Igot one in .30-06 about a year and a half ago. I really like mine. It shoots clover leaf groups with $15.00 per box Federal ' Power Shock' ammo in 150gr. I call it my lucky rifle as I shot a 260 pound 8 point buck last fall, first time out with that rifle. See attached photo of rifle and deer.Yes,as you can see I like to brag about it!

I mounted a Sightron 'Big Sky' 3-12x 42mm scope. I was hunting in a deer stand in northern MN. Buck was crossing a logging road and I shot him at about 65 yards. Buck dropped dead on the spot with a shot to the base of the neck with a Federal Power Shock bullet in 150gr. Luckily I did not have to track him into the adjacent thick woods. I just had to pull my expedition right up and slide him on the cargo shelf. Here is another photo.

I have a Remington 700xcr in 270wsm with a Burris Euro-Diamond 2.5x10x44mm. Very happy with it. I shoot Winchester Power Point 150gr. factory ammo. Chronographed it at 3200fps. Took this mule deer doe last year at a lasered 298yds. one shot behind the shoulder. Took out both lungs.

Honestly, if you aren't hunting in places like Alaska and the NW coast up to Alaska where the TRINYTE coating would actually benefit you then I would put the extra money ($250 - $300)that the XCR costs into the scope, ammo, etc... and get the SPS stainless. The XCR and the SPS use the same stock except for the rubber grips.

I agree with Bigbulls, If your not going to hunt by salty coastal waters, no need for the XCR. The Rem 700 SPS in stainless would work out great. The only reason I got an XCR over the SPS is that it happened to be marked down on clearance because it was a year old model. One more thing, I really do like the rubber inlayed grips on the XCR.
