Default Wolf ammo

I was thinking of getting one of those military surplus bolt action guns in 7.62x39 or 54 for close range deer hunting. I noticed in cabelas they have that wolf ammo in those calibers for like $2.00 a box. Have any of you tried this ammo? What' s your opinion of it? And which would be better, a 54 or 39?

the 54 would have more power obviosly but the 7.62x39 has similar power to the 30-30. now some people will tell you thet the 30-30 wil bounce off deer or that deer will somehow soak up the energy of 5 rounds and live pleasent live for the next 5 years with no problems. the 39 in a bolt action riction can depending on the action of choice be laoded to the level of the 30-30 with spire style bullets thus giving it a ballistic edge. though if i had a choice and if it was plinking round i would get the 39 but if i was interesting in a hunitng rifle i woulds get the 54.

I have only used the .45 ACP Wolf ammo. It is as accurate as any GI ball .45 ACP that I have ever fired, and is close to some GI hardball MATCH stuff I have used. Also very clean. But, I don' t think they make any softpoint hunting ammo for either of the Russian rifle rounds, do they? You might be limited to just using their rifle stuff for practice shooting.

i;ve used wolf ammo alot in my sks,p90 45acp and p38 9mm,
my sks will shoot anything really, the wolf ammo aint too bad of a shooter
the 45 shoots it ok, had a few failure to feed. doesn;t chamber completely
the p38 really shoots anything i put in it well.

all in all i;ve had a few misfires but i' d say i' ve shot a solid 2000 rounds of wolf ammo and maybe had 25misfires. it;d definately worth the price.

never used it on game though

Have used a bit of 7.62.39 wolf ammo seems good to me , bought some soft points for it& i heard they have 150 grain SP 39 now, wolf, but havenet tryed any myself for hunting etc .but i might now with some soft points.

but a a 7.62.54 bolt gun sounds good to kod, its a unrimmed catridge or rimmed?

id Like to get some those old military rifles too.
found some old .30 army cases.
