Default Building a Rifle Battery

OK - Please help me!!!
I'm a Shotgun guy, and I am trying to build a rifle battery.
I just brought a 243, I am looking at either a 270 or a 7MM on the high end?
I am also looking at a 204 or a 223 on the low end?
Please help with your opinions on filling the upper and lower ends to complimentmy 243 (Remington Model 700SPS DM)
Thanks guys!!!

Jeepkid,
It's Brown Dirt Cowboy!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Building a rifle battery and want to "cover" all my bases.

I'll take all opinions on which would be better, but must have long range accuracy and pleanty of energy out to +/- 300 yards.

I thought it might have been, why did you get a new account?

I would go towards a 7mm Rem Mag, but I am biased towards the 7's

Either the .204 or .223 would be great. The .223 ammo tends to be cheaper and more available. Both should be extremely accurate.

Are you looking for factory rifles, semi-customs, or customs?

Factory all the way, however I will bring them to a gunsmith up north and ask them if it could use a trigger job and perhaps "lap" the barrel.
So, for the big stuff I figure if I went with the 7MM, I'm covered.
The 223 if figure will probable buck the wind better than the 204, but I hear good things about this cartridge.

I'd go with a Remington Sendero in 7mm Rem mag or RUM for the bigger game. And then a Remington 700P in .223 for the little stuff. You might also look into a CA-legal AR-15, they are kinda lame, but still a lot of fun. One of my shooting buddies has a Ruger Varmint in .204, so we go head to head with my .223, his is pretty flat and fast, but I still like the .223 better.

Just got that remington 700 SPS DM in my hot little hand and going to bring it up to Bolsa gunsmithing with the Burris 4-16X I told you about.
Tigger work? (at least, lighten it up +/-3lbs.?)
Barrel lapping?
Hey, do you hunt coyotes?
Sell the pelts?

I'd try the trigger first and see how it feels. It might need tuned it might not. 2 1/2-3lbs is about right if it is crisp.

I'm not sure about lapping a factory barrel, you could probably just shoot it to break it in...

Yeah, I hunt coyotes, its a blast. I don't sell pelts, but I was talking to a buddy the other day, and he said he heard some people get pretty good money for them around here. So I'm going to start looking into it. They also get like $500 for bobcat pelts.

hey jeepkid,
Happy New Year to you and your family.

There is one product I know of which can be used on new factory barrels, although I have never use it.

http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0003181214206a.shtml

I read an article on using this stuff and it improved the rifle's MOA by almost 40%.

What have you been doing with the coyotes you got?

I would only use the Tubbs stuff as a last resort (like right before having to re-barrel it). I have heard good and bad about it, so I would just have a smith hand lap it.

I usually just cut the tails off the yote and then walk away.
