I'd go with a Remington Sendero in 7mm Rem mag or RUM for the bigger game. And then a Remington 700P in .223 for the little stuff. You might also look into a CA-legal AR-15, they are kinda lame, but still a lot of fun. One of my shooting buddies has a Ruger Varmint in .204, so we go head to head with my .223, his is pretty flat and fast, but I still like the .223 better.
