It all comes down to what you like. I own a few Mossberg 500s, and they are great with slugs, they seem to like the Lightfields but try a few brands. If you do purchase one, get the most for your money, and get yourself the 500 combo includes a 26" or 28" barrel with a few choke tubes, and a 24" rifled/cantilever barrel, get yourself a decent scope as well. The Remington maybe somewhat better made as some may say, but both are proven pumps

Hey bowhuntercop, the rem has a 20in. slug barrel with rifled sites, the mossberg has a 24in. slug barrel cantilevered, the 500 would actually be better for mounting a scope on it would'nt it,but I also heard the chamber on the 500 is aluminim is that an issue or could it be.

Lastfall I gota Rem 870 combo with a 23" rifled barrelwith the cantelever scope mount, other barrel is 28" smooth bore. I mounted a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x 32mm scope. Itlikes the Hornady SST slugs. I'm extremely happy with the whole package. Very accurate and user friendly.

bucksnorited, I never once had a problem with my two 500s, or my 835, and nither has anyone I know did, unless it was something stupid, and that can happen to the best shotgun out there. If you can wait, I know DICKS SPORTING GOODS always has the Mossberg 500 comb on sale

I don't think there on sale at dick's right now,but duhnam's sporting goods has a scoped/rifle/combo cantilevered,in the 500 for 299.99 right now,I don't think you can get to much better of a deal than that,I could care less about the scope that comes with it.I was going to put a 3x9x50 Burris Fullfield ll on it I know alot of people has got mixed feelings about putting a 50mm on a shotgun but my bosses are big hunters and he has a red stag thats 7th. in the world and he said if he would have had a 40mm he would have never seen it,because the 50mm let him see at the last critical moments

I own one of each, 500 with rifled barrel cantilever scope mount and a 870 rifled site smooth bore barrel. Flip a coin.........You won't be disapointed in either one.

hey thanks sjsfire,I appreciate everyones info but thats what I was really looking for was someone that has owned em both or shot em both, actually they have a good deal on the rem at dick's right now but after the rebate the 500 rifeled combo is still 20.00 dollars cheaper plus its the synthetic stock, not very pretty but will hold up good. The best price I could find on the Burris scope was at natchez shooter supply.
