i have had several mossberg 500-s . first of all if its a great shooter doesnt matter what it looks like but its a smooth bore so i wouldnt think its such a great long range tight grouper. i have gotten brand new model 500-s for a little over 200$ so the price isint all that great. the scope is a cheapy and the scope mount on it has to be taken off and put back on if your using it for deer and small game. i found those type mounts a pain. if you really want a slug gun i would get a rifled barrel if you shooting more than 60 yards. i wouldnt pay more than 125$ but thats me.

The $125 liquid said sounds right to me, too. A good thing to consider is that Mossberg sells a great barrel for the 500 (and offers them for Rem 870 also).
The package was $169. A fully rifled & ported barrel with cantilever scope mount and a 3-9 X 40 scope. It is factory laser bore sighted. I bought one and it was pretty much dead nuts accurate right out of the package. My buddy bought one for his 870 and it too was right on out of the package.
I didn't like the scope so it was replaced with a red dot scope.I sold the original one to a guy at the range who was trying to sight in his slug gun and his scope was broke. Got $40 for it.
