I don't know, I have heard that not only are these critters getting tougher now days, but they can also read road signs.. Of course so can humans but they don't mean they pay any attention.

You know James, I honestly don't care much for venison although I would hunt it & cook it if really hungry. However, bison on the other hand, the whole family likes. These are such big critters... thick skinned, amazing coats, 800 to 900 pound cows, 2000 lb bulls, I read they have gotten to 3000! Well, when the kids are out of college I just may trot my 45 70 out west to bag one. Gotta figure out how to get the meat home though. I see the cartridge market today as saturated for deer hunting. When I see the American Buff, my instincts are to go bigger!

Had a 45-70 and got rid of it. Only place I'd use it isinwoods setting at shortrange. Rainbow Trajectory limits it as a short range roundunless you are areal experienced shooter and like extrapolating rainbow trajectories while hunting. At short ranges I see no advantage to the 45-70 over a 44 mag in a lever action and many disadvantages like weight and cost and recoiletc. The 45-70 has seen its day, time to let it die the death it deserves.
See below and then ask yourself if you really want a rifle cartridge that makes a 44 mag look good at 150yds?

If you want to see a rainbow trajectory, try loading a 500 gr. bullet in a .44 magnum.

Amazing but true. Venison does not catch on the chuckwagon! Too bad. We have way too many deer. Last winter, Iowa, a state that religiously opposed rifle hunting, opened a special rifle season to help cull the critters in the southern tier of counties. But I applaud deer hunters. Quick, get your licenses and hunt Iowa. I will be able to drive to work easier without having to dodge those big dumb varmints.

I love all the wild game. The worst thing I ever ate for meat was a 60+ inch Moose from Alaska. This old boy was way past his prime and it was hardly etable. We pitched most of it. Generally Moose is very good.
