I had an 870 express in 12 ga.and really loved it. The only things I did not like were the weight and the long barrel.

the barrel is only 18.5 '' and it's light as a .22, which is going to kick a bit I imagine

Kick? Oh yea. If it doesn't ahve theR3 recoil pad, I would add one. It will really help.

The 870 Express is a good sound gun with a proven action. Just be sure to keep a good rust preventative on it, because the Express models will rust quicker than the Wingmaster models. This happened to me unfortunately.....

I called Remington to ask about this, andLinda Powell (press relations spokesperson) said it is because they use a different alloy in the Express models to save money and make them more affordable to the consumer. I guess you get what you pay for.

this is sprayed with a material that prevents rusting. i'm not sure what it's called tho.

I like my 12g 870.
I've got the 28" bird barrel, and the 23" cantelevered rifled barrel.
It shoots good.

If you can handle a 12g, the 20 ought to be pretty sweet.
The pumps are always lighter then the semis, and with your short barrel, it should handle very nicely.

I believe the finish on the 870 express is parkerized. It does protect, bu tit only buys you time. Dry them off when they get wet, and store them properly in low humidity.

Enjoy your new gun.
