RE: New Remington 710 rifle

after reading this thread i bought a savage .270 to replace the 710. i did kill an 8 pt. buck with it but i doubt i will use it that much. maybe i will sell it or trade it for something better if i can.

I am not trying to tell people that they need to panic and run out and pawn thier 710 and replace it with something else. But people should keep an eye on thier gun. It really is pretty sad that a person should even have to be worried about thier gun falling apart.

The reason i went out and got a new gun is because 1. i wanted a bigger caliber rifle and 2. i want a gun that will last a long time and would like to give to my kids when they start hunting and that's a long time from now considering i don't have any kids at the moment. do yall honestly think the 710 will last that long?

Man this subjects on fire ,this is like the Ford Chevy debate .

I helped a fellow shooter at the range yesterday sight in his brandnew 710 in 30.06 even though it shot well when sighted in the bolt throw felt rough and the magazine gaves us some resistance .

It's wouldn't be fair to judge this working rifle with the likes of a Sako or other in mind. Yes its a roughly finished product and it intended to be that way .

If i had to pick between a Savage and the 710 , Savage wins hands down with me. I dont see this model being around much longer ,too many folks dislike it ,overall.
My $.02

yeah i shot my 710 at the range and the bolt was REAL rough. it even jammed on me once. even when the bolt is lubed up it is still a little rough.

I got one in 30.06, it was my starter rifle last year until I bought my new Ruger this year. The 710 will be my backup since I won't get more then $100 for it. Let's just hope my backup won't fall apart, ha ha. Plus it's an extra in case I decide to hit the range or need an extra hunting buddy, I can lend it to my brother in-law or someone like that.
