RE: new shotgun
In all fairness friend.....you will not find a good one for that. Even used will be a trick.
Go to some gun shows. Stevens made some ok guns years ago and they're for sale at times.
Try Walmart. I saw one that is the former American Arms gun. They are not too bad but I don't remember the price.
The least cost good quality twin tube IMO is the SKB 505 and it's about a grand.

RE: new shotgun
I know I'm gonna take a beating here for this one from all the gunners with money to blow, but here it is...
Ever looked at aStoeger? I got a Stoeger Condor Supreme (O/U 12ga) last year and really like it so far. The gun fits me well and I didn't have to spend $1000 on it so I'm not afraid to actually take it out into the field. That being said, I've done a bit of shooting witha Ruger Red Label 12 and really enjoyed it too. It's a smoother gun to break open and looks nice but for the money, the Stoeger ain't a bad gun.
Most importantly, just make sure you get a gun that fits you. Just because your buddy shoots well with one model/make, doesn't mean you will. I traded my Beretta AL390 for the Stoeger because the Beretta didn't fit me right. Works for me...

Wait and save up another $100. My buddy just bought a Lanber o/u that is really well made and is also visually appealing for $500. I shot it this past weekend and was very impressed by it. I shot sporting clays with my buddy with the Lanber and guys that had Beretta's like myself and Browning's and we all thought the Lanber was under priced at $500.00. I actually liked it better than the Ruger Red Label.
