Default Disabled Hunt !!!

[hr]

I just got back from a disabled hunt at Cave In Rock Illinois. I got there yesterday morning and went to the woods about 2:00 o'clock. I got settled in the stand and about 15 minutes later saw a buck running a doe all over the place about 80 yards out. This went on for about a half hour and they left. I saw 4 does coming up a ridge to my right but they passed out of range headed towards a crop field. I spotted another deer travelling the same way the does went but at about 50 yards it headed straight for my stand. It got to about 25 yards and cut across in front of me but was moving enough so I couldn't get a shot. It headed up a ridge to my left quartering away and stoppeed about 35 yards out. I put the red dot on it and triggered the crossbow. I heard the arrow hit and it sounded good. The deer ran up the ridge and around a brush pile where I saw it fall down. I couldn't see it any more so I thought it was down right there. I got on my ATV and went to camp and told the guys I had a deer down. They came to the stand with me and went to where I saw the deer go down. It wasn't there and there was no blood trail. They worked small circles and found it about 20 yards down the ridge unbder a log. The bolt had passed through it entering the left side high behind the ribs and exiting out just ahead of the right shoulder. We never found the bolt so it must have buried in the leaves after it went through the deer. All together I was in the woods about 1 1/2 hours and had my deer. I dropped it off at the processing place on my nway home today. It was a yearling so it should really be good eating.
