WI, your processing room is very nice! Wish we had something like that. I was trying to talk my husband into prcoessing our deer this year but he said that we don't have a good enough place to do the work. He has a little bit of meat cutting experience - cutting beef from a side - but has never skinned an animal. It couldn't be that hard could it? My brother sometimes processes his own but usually his buddy (who processes deer) does it.

Friday I blew the shot on a nice doe. She came in by herself and never had a clue that I was waiting to ambush her. As she came closer I waited for her to pass behind a tree then I went to draw. The damned arrow came off the rest![:@] She was now at less than 5 yards and stopped - perfect broadsise shot. She looked at me and then looked away. I quickly put the arrow back on but soon as I did she looked at me again and decided she didn't like what she saw. She then turned and went up the hill never giving me a shot. She did not spook though, just walked quietly away. I then proceeded to call myself every rotten name I can think of! Moral of story - I think I need to invest in a whisker biscuit...

Did not hunt Saturday...plans with family... Will be back in the woods on Monday...

Well everyone nothing new here. The woods seem pretty dead. I got out Friday night and saw a doe and fawn. Then Saturday morning and night nothing. Sunday morning again nothing. This I am told by the neighbors is pretty normal for where I hunt. They claim all the deer move to the corn west of our place. They have about 200 acres over there. I have noticed this in the past 2 seasons. Anyway I will get out again this Friday and Saturday. Have to be home Sunday morning. Hope everyone else is having better luck.

Jen-Don't worry about the arrow coming off the rest. Just learn from it. Sounds like you did not get busted so she will come back. As for skinning deer it is easy. We hang ours by the hind legs. Just cut up the inside of the hind legs and start to peel the skin back. When you get to the tail you cut that off and start to pull down. After you do a few you will be able to skin a deer in about 10 minutes. The rest you husband should know from doing beef. It is some work but it does save money in the long run and can be fun. Thanks for the comment on our room. It is nice and sure is better then taking it home and doing it in the wifes kitchen. She never really took to that.[:o]

Well guys, my bad luck continues. In six hunts I have yet to lay eyes on a deer. This is a record for me. I usually see deer on almost every hunt. The weather has been horrible down here. Warm, high humidy, etc. They are calling for cooler weather this weekend, so hopefully the deer will start moving.

Good luck

D.C. It must be very discouraging for you not seeig any deer. I sure hope the weather breaks for you soon. The deer are out there somewhere and just remember - good things come to those who wait!

Interesting hunts the last two days...
Yesterday morning it was cold and foggy. About an hour after sun up I hear footsteps behind me. Sounded like a human so it gave my heart a start. I slowly turn around to find a buck looking at me about 20 feet away. Then in a flash he snorted and turned and walked away. He didn't seem to be in any hurry to leave but he did. He appeared to be a 3 x 3. I guess being scent free helped because he walked right up the path I came in on and it would seem the fog would be holding my scent in the area....
Didn't hunt in the morning today but went out for the evening. I found a new spot to set up the other day and the wind was right tonight so there I was. At 6 pm I was overrun with blackbirds. They swarmed in the trees and in the corn fileld. They sure made a racket! It seemed like there were a million of them! Finally they left and all was quiet. A little bit later I seen a doe headed my way between the corn fields. She kept looking back over her shoulder. A fox walked right by her. Who said that fox were a deers enemy? Anyway when the doe got close she didn 't go the direction she was supposed to where I had a nice opening to shoot. Instead she went to the right. When she came to the rather small opening I let the arrow fly. Must have hit the weeds low as I found my arrow on the ground just in front of where she had stood. Oh well, at least it wasn't a bad hit. I would rather miss altogether.....
Saturday starts a short week of muzzleloader season - also some small game. I imagine that some of the neighbors will be spooking the deer. This is good as they usually get chased into the woods on my property. I will then set up along the usual escape routes...

Hang in there guys...the best hunting is yet to come!;)

Hey Guys and Gal. I am back from 2 days of learning all new computer stuff.[:'(] Well it does help pay the bills. Anyway I talked to my boss on the trip and I do have the week of Oct. 25 off. On Friday Oct 22 I will go out to the cabin and bow hunt until the following Wednesday night. Then Thrus-Sun is that T-Zone gun hunt. I have to wear orange. I may carry the bow a little then too but it is tough to bow hunt in that much orange.

DC - I know what you mean about the hot weather. I do hope you get some cooler weather soon. It makes all the difference.

The RUT is coming everyone. Let's all get out there.

Hello everyone,
Wi, awesome deer cleaning room. I'll post a pic of my hunting buddies cleaning a deer in a cousins garage.
DC, I hope it is getting cooler/colder for you too.
Jen, Those deer always sneak up on me too. I once had 20 deer all with in 30 yards of me while bow hunting in December with snow on the ground. I just took a picture from the stand and bent over to put the camera back under the seat of the stand when 20 doe ran right up under my stand. I didn't get a shot with my bow or camera. I try to be a little more aware now. But deer can still sneak up on you with all the leaves still on the trees.

Well, I won't be getting out in the woods this weekend because of plans. I bought a couple Cards/Astros tickets Off of ebay for tonights game at 7:00 CT at St. Louis(3 hour drive). Standing room only $50 a peice. I hope the game will be like last nights game. Then Friday I'll be going to play in a College Disc Golf Tournament in Nashville on the campus of (Vanderbilt)(sp)(2 hour drive). This is over the full weekend.
It has finially gotten colder here. Yesterday I saw 3 big doe out walking around in the backyard while it was raining and foggy. I'll be back out hunting on next Thursday.
Wi is right the Rut is right around the corner.

Thank the the Lord for the cool weather. I finally got my first deer sighting and harvest of the year. I took an nice doe over an isolated acorn tree yesterday afternoon.

I hit her a little higher that I would have liked, but still got the double lund pass through, with a short 60yd tracking job.

Pics to come!!!!!!!!!! Looks like we will have some cool weather for next couple of days and then back into the 80's.

Good luck all, the rut is close for some of you!!!!!!!!!
