RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Well KardKutter, I've never had a string break but then I've only had my bow for two seasons. It sux that you have to start over on the quick... but this interests me because my string has one strand that has broke. It seems strong enough even so but I am debating on going to have a new string put on. Do you guys think I still have time to do this? And since I never had this done before what might this cost?
I am so anxious about my StealthCam... Yesterday I was worrying because we had the remnants of hurricane Frances spin thru. It was very breezy and raining like mad. I figured the camera would be taking pics of the leaves, weeds & ferns. We shall see. I did see two different turkey hens and one poult when I was looking out the window. It made me think of last year when I seen more deer on rainy days... This time when I placed the trail cam I put it in a very busy area. It is a ravine within the woods, but it is something like a funnel with about a 500 ft. drop. to a spring at the bottom. There is a trail running the length of it and then there are three trails that come together and cross it and become one. I don't hunt this much (except during the gun season) because it tends to channel the air from the field below right up into the woods. You get busted every time because the deer always travel down this hill. Any suggestions on how you would hunt this area? etw... sounds like you had a great time with your grandson. That time with him is important so I hope you can make it special. My grandfather passed away in Feb. this year. :( I didn't spend much time with him during my life but he always made me feel special when I did get to see him. I never got to hunt with him but I can remember some of his tales, especially about hunting for snapping turtles with his bare hands. I am sad that I didn't spend more time with him. Well... back onto more upbeat discussion. I am also wishing everyone luck. NOT THAT WE NEED IT RIGHT???!!! We've got one team member out hunting already which makes me want the season to start now. It's the most wonderful time of the year..... Sorry to ramble....:) JEN |

Sorry to ramble.... IMO you should get that string replaced right away. To me the cost of a string (not sure how much would think about $40) is a lot cheaper then repairs if the bow explodes or worse if you were to get injured. I would think you could get it shooting like it was in just a few days. Just shoot it a lot to get it broken in. I've heard that can be 200-500 shots. Good luck with it. As for the camera I wouldn't worry about getting pictures of leaves. As I understand it they detect motion and HEAT. Otherwise you would get trees moving all the time. Hatchet I have to agree with you about the stoneage. I also don't understand that whole no hunting Sunday thing either.[:'(] I don't think I could live there. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Well everyone I have some news. I have made an executive decision. I have asked Rob to replace MNRUT. If you look at his profile he joined huntingnet on Aug. 7 and posted 39 times by Aug 12. He did NOT sign in again until Sept 2 when I asked him to check in with the team. He did not check in. He has not responded to 2 email I have sent him since the 2nd. I do not feel he will be checking in with this team during the season. If you look this board has almost 70,000 registered users and only 230 in the contest. Most of that 70,000 never come back.
MNRUT - If you should see this I am sorry but we had to do what was best for the team. You seem to be too busy and I do understand that. This contest is for fun but I feel we need to have an entire 10 (man and woman:D) team to compete. Thank you for understanding and good luck to you this season. I will let the rest of you know who the replacement is once I find out. Rob may even post it on this thread. Thanks guys and gal.:D |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Hey guys, sorry I never got back to check in. I guess I misread the email that was sent to me and didn't realize I had to check in on the board. I've just been really busy as a new semester has started at school and it's proving to be the most difficult thus far. I completely understand that I had to be replaced and just wanted to wish you all the best of luck this season! Maybe things will work out better next season.

MNRUT - Unbelieveable. I am really sorry about this.:( I have been watching the boards about 10 times a day. Thank you for being understanding about this. Best of luck to you this fall in the woods and classroom. Be sure to log back in and post a pic of your deer this year so I can be sure to feel real bad. I have a feeling that will be the way it goes.
Everyone else, I hope I have better luck with my decision making in the woods. I guess this is why I am not an executive. I have been debating about doing this all week and then 20 minutes after I do it he logs in. Jen - I am sorry we will have to change the logo once we know who the replacement will be. I will email you as soon as I hear. Thanks everyone who helped with my decision. I wish it had worked out better. We'll just have to see how it goes. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Sounded like he was glad to get out anyway. Don't beat yourself up.

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Thanks DC. I just want everyone to have a good time. I know this thing has been a lot of fun already and we still have 230 guys and gals with no deer. I really didn't want to take that away from him. Let's see who Rob gets for us.

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Too bad about MNRut....
No big deal on the logo....I hope! (fingers crossed) Today I visited the local archery shop. I have to say that I am very pleased with the service I got from this guy. He went over everything from the bow to how I shoot. First off I got a new string. He didn't like the broken strand on the old one but he especially did not like the wear around the cams. Found out I'm pulling only 50 lbs.... I had to give up my cheap string silencers as they wouldn't come off. Got a brand new rest, new screws for the quiver, a kisser button, and a few new carbon arrows. I was using aluminum arrows before. I was told that the arrows I was using were too heavy for this bow. So the new arrows are lighter and he said to use lighter field tips and broadheads. I was also told that I was using my release backwards??? After all the adjustments and changes he showed me that the old arrows were flying at about 180 fps and the new ones were 220 fps. Well, I get home and start practicing. The first few groups at 15 yards were a little scattered and then got a little better. I moved back to 20 yards and the first arrow missed the target completely. Here I noticed that the left prong on the rest was a little loose (new rest can be adjusted 4 ways now). I tightened that up and tried again. The groupings got better and better. I decided to call it quits when I got two groupings in a row that were all within 2 - 3 inches. Wow! I am impressed with the change. Before I was consistently shooting to the left and now I am down the middle and grouping better than ever. Tomorrow I will practice a bit at 20 yards then from 25 and 30. I feel much more confident with the bow now and I think this is going to make a big difference in my hunting season. How are you guys making out with your setup and practice? |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Way to go Jen. Sounds like you won't have any excuses this year.:D Always good when you find that quality pro shop. I am also very happy to hear you got that string replaced. I sure would have hated to have you post that you got hurt when it broke.[:o]
As for my setup, where do I start. I went nuts this season. In May I bought the xTec. Then I put on the Trophy Ridge Drop Zone, Trophy Ridge matrix guide series sites and the doinker stabilizer. I then went out and purchased a dozen Gold Tip Pro hunters, a dozen CX 3D Select and a dozen Easton Axis. Since I had all that I picked up an arrow saw, fletching jig and put them together myself. Looks like I will be going with the Gold Tips. Then my sons release (Scott Little goose) had a problem so I gave him mine and picked up the winn free glove. But I didn't get a new quiver this year. I know I went a little over board but I have just been loving shooting this year. I was one that never really shot until the week before the season. Now that my son shoots with me I get out several times a week. By the way he bought him self the xTec after shooting mine. Only problem is he shoots better then me and pulls more weight at 16 years old. Well that's my setup and I love every part of it right now. Guess I don't have any excuses this year either. Next year will be very slim pickings for me. This stuff will have to last for several years. Just don't tell my wife about everything I bought. That would get ugly.[:o] Keep practicing and you should be all set for your opener. For this week I will probably not shoot much since I have everything all sighted in with the broadheads. I will just shoot a couple at the cabin before I go out every day. Good luck. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
