Congratulations on your doe Dave! It's good to know you'll be out there hunting the big boys...

For me, I will take the first decent sized doe that walks my way OR the first 7-point or better buck that gives me a shot. Since I haven't gotten a buck yet I'm not hunting for a bruiser. I will be happy to get what's legal!

On a side note... Neighbor called yesterday and said 4 bears left my property to cross the road. Must have been mom and 3 almost grown cubs. Now I'm wondering if I should purchase a bear license? Do you'll think it's worth it? Our season is only 3 days long. We've been having bears cross the property about once per week now.

Come on Saturday!!!!

Thanks DC. Matt really got into shooting the bow this year. At this time my wife and I have decided not to put any pictures of our daughter on the site. Just too many sicko's out there. She is one of Gilbert Brown's biggest fans that is why all the Green Bay pictures. Maybe some day we will put some of her with some of the squirrels she gets. Then everyone will know that she can handle a gun.

Thanks Jen. You posted as I was typing. I got distracted with work.[:@] Good luck to you on taking your first buck. Be happy with whatever you take. This contest is just for fun and I wouldn't want anyone to change the way they hunt for it. As for the bear thing I don't know what to tell you. Is the license much $$? It couldn't hurt to have one but make sure you know where to aim on a bear. I for one would not have any idea what the exact target area would be. I also do not have bears on our property.

Hey PAJen go for the bear tag and leave your bow at the house Take your cannon!! I bowhunt PA every other year out of a cabin in Promiseland on State Forest, frequently see bears.
Got my food plots seeded and fertilized this past weekend. Austrian winter peas, oats and clovers. Trimmed out my shooting lanes. I guess I'm as ready as can be for the Texas opener.

Hey everyone, it's official WE ARE ON THE BOARD. PLB's buck has been accepted even though the tag is not in the picture. This will not be allowed in the future. Please everyone remember to include everything in the pics. This is going to be a lot of fun.

NOW if PLB would just get the pictures and get one posted. Maybe give us your friends email address and we can all email him every hour until he gets them developed and sent to you.

Here's an update on my past week of hunting. I went a total of 12 hours hunting this weekend and I didn't see a single deer while in the stand. On Sunday morning I got out of the stand at 9:00 after 3 hours of not see anything, I walked up the trail 15 yards and saw a squirrel hopping around. He came rigth up to me 5 feet away. He was just curious I guess. I turned and watched him a while and when I started walking back up the trail 2 doe were 15 yards in front of me!!! A momma and a yearling. I didn't have an arrow nocked so I just watched them until the yearling saw me and ran off.

I went hunting this moring for 4 hours. Clear sky, not much wind, temp of 45 this morning, full moon. I heard a deer while walking to the stand. I heard a deer 15-20 yards from me while arriving at the top of the ladder stand to dark to see anything. I sat for 30 minutes, and saw 4 doe passing behind me at 20 yards. It was still a bit to dark to see my whitted out brass pin sights. about 7:00 I saw 2 doe approaching in front of me. I stood up and readied to shoot. They were 25 yards away so I let them pass. Right after they passed a 7-8 pointer came following in their trail. I was about the same size of rack of my last 2 bucks. The rack up more upright and missing a browtine. He had his nose to the ground. He was around me for a few minutes. He softly grunted a bit. I'd never heard this. He then followed the 2 doe away. My cousin is in St. Louis this week so if i'd taken him I'd still be draggin him out. So an hour passed and a single doe passed 20 yards from me. I took the shot and missed totally. Bad form and everything. that was about 8:00. I had 10 more doe pass within 50 yards of me for a total of 23 deer near me. Only on doe blowed at me and that was when he was down wind of me. I was wanting that doe for some meat but i guess it wasn't ment to be. I still feel there is a lot of hunting left so I don't feel to bad for not taking the buck and missing the doe.
Wow the woods was kicken.
And out of all the deer one was a buck and I only saw 2 yearlings. I'll be practicing more tonight and hitting the trails Saturday again. They're calling for rain, We have had .25 of an inch of rain this September. So we could use it.
I hope that wasn't my last chance at a buck this year, cause then I'd feel a little bad.
Good luck to everyone thats season starts this weekend.

Hey KK, Sounds like you had a great morning in the woods. Sure is better then what I have been doing all morning. WORK.[:'(] I will be getting out next tomorrow evening and then Saturday morning. That may be all I get out this weekend. Don't feel bad about passing he buck. You are right when you say it is a long season yet. It that should turn out to be your only chance this year then feel good that you at least had a chance and let him go to grow.

Well back to work. I'll report back Saturday night or Sunday.
