opening morning has come and gone 2 big does just out of range they changed there runs already like they knew i was there hanging a new stand today as much as i hate to do it ..hunting on state land stinks always taking stands down and putting up in the morning !!

vandalizum is horrid here can't leave anything the tree huggers will cut the tree down to get my stand out

4 buck and 12 doe Saturday (first day), spike & doe last night.

Almost had a chance to put us on the board last night. Saw 4 doe and a nice buck last night. 3 doe came in with the buck following. The buck never presented a shot and when he proceeded back to the corn field and out of sight I took the doe. Nephew in the picture with me. Working to get him started early.

Congrats on the Doe,

I saw 5 Bucks Monday neither within bow range, and about 12 does a few came within range but it was too dark to take a clean shot without the possibilities of wounding. Overall I had a good two day hunt in Hogs Island Va.

These deer were walking the Marsh Lines just about 5 yards off the roads behind heavy cover headed towards the corn fields. I added some light to the photo to show the deer sneaking through about 7:20 pm as they came up out the marsh behind them into the open fields.

Congrats on the Doe. I have passed on several (15 yds or less) but all have had this years fawns with-I know they would be just fine-it is a personal thing with me. I have 2 bonus antlerless tags this year (I haven't shot a Doe since probably 1980). No bucks within bow range & thats not unusual for the area I am Bowhunting-they start showing up in force in a week or so as there are lots of Does. I like the team keeping us posted on how their season is going.

HELLO ALL !!!! WELL SEASON OPENED ON THE FIRST OF OCT. IT WAS OFF TO A GOOD START! I HAD A NICE 8 POINTER TALL AND WIDE SHOW UP AT 22 YARDS. IT WAS 06:59 IN THE A.M. WHEN I TOOK THE SHOT. BEFORE I START THE STORY I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW I WILL NOT TAKE A SHOT ON ANY ANIMAL UNLESS I KNOW IT WILL BE A QUICK AND CLEAN KILL. SO HERE WE GO,,,, THE BUCK CAME OUT AT 06:55 A.M. I SEEN HIM COME OUT OF THE THICKET. I WAITED UNTIL I HAD A GOOD HEART LUNG SHOT. I RELEASED AND THE ARROW HIT A LITTLE AND I MEAN A LITTLE LIMB ABOUT 3/16" IN DIA. I DID NOT EVEN SEE. THE SHOT WAS HIGH IN THE RIGHT FRONT SHOULDER. THE ARROW BROKE OFF IN THE DEER LEAVING ABOUT 3 1/2" IN THE DEER. I WAITED FOR 2 HRS. BEFORE GETTING OUT OF MY TREESTAND. I HAD 7 OTHER DEER GO BYE ME IN THIS TIME FRAME. BUT NO SHOOTERS. I DID NOT FIND ANY BLOOD UNTIL 100 YARDS BUT IT WAS JUST ALITTLE. TRACKED HIM FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 300 YARDS AND THEN NO MORE BLOOD. I WAS SICK TO MY STOMACH!!!!! I FELT LIKE CRAP!!!!!!!!! I WENT HOME TO GET SOME HELP FROM SOME BUDDY`S AND OFF WE WENT TO FIND THE DEER. WE SEARCHED UNTIL 20:30 FOR THE DEER AND NO SIGN! I COULD NOT EVEN SLEEP THAT NIGHT. GOT UP NEXT MORNING AND TRYED TO FIND THE DEER AGAIN BUT NO LUCK. SO MY FIRST WEEKEND OUT WAS JUST TRYING TO FIND THAT BUCK. I HATE HAVING WOUNDED DEER OR ANY ANIMAL IN THE WOODS. I`M GOING TO GO BACK OUT THIS WEEKEND AND SEE IF I SEE HIM ANYWHERE. I TEACH HUNTERS ED AND A SHOOTING SPORTS PROGRAM FOR 4-H AND I ALWAYS TELL THE KIDS DONT SHOOT UNTIL YOU HAVE A GOOD CLEAN SHOT AND BEWARE OF WHATS BEHIND YOUR TARGET. BUT LET ME TELL YOU THERE IS A SICK FILLING DEEP DOWN STILL TODAY OVER THAT BUCK. IT WAS NOT THE SIZE JUST THAT IT WAS NOT RECOVERED! WELL I WANT TO TELL EVERONE THAT HAS ALREADY GOT ONE CONGRADS!!!!!!!I WILL TRY TO GET ONE THIS WEEKEND.

Congrats on the doe Todd.

I shot another doe yesterday afternoon. My brother was nice enough to put me in one of his better spots. It is a funnel of woods about 50 yards wide between the back of a corn field, and a clover field. The cornfield is planted behind an apple orchard, and that funnel connects two large blocks of woods. I had deer around me from about 5:30pm till dark, which was right at 7pm. they were running through the corn and all along the edge of the field.

There is a small water filled ditch that runs along the inside edge of the woods on the cornfield side, and the doe came walking up that ditch about 6:50pm. She poped up out of the ditch and came towards the stand. The shot was about 7 yards, went in perfectly, came out on the bottom of the deer. The exit hole was plugged up, but the Thunderhead did the job and I found the deer 60 yards away.

This was almost identical to the shot I had earlier with the spitfire. The placement was the same, the angle was the same, the distance of the shot almost identical, and the exit hole was in the same place, and plugged the same way. There was almost no blood from the spitfire entrance wound. However, there was a very easy to follow blood trail from the thunderhead hit. Both entrance wounds were the same place on the body, but the spitfire hole was much smaller. I guess that's why the blood trail was better with the Thunderhead.

There are alot of deer in that area, and I'm sure that stand will be on fire during the rut.

Some more info from last night's hunt.

Took the day off yesterday(Wednesday) because I took a doe Tuesday. Back out tonight to the same spot. Saw a nice buck there when I shot the doe. 6:15pm the buck appears about 70 yards away making scrapes on a path in the woods. I used a grunt call to bring him in and shot him 7 paces from my tree. He went 15 yards and fell over. I swear he looked bigger from the tree ;)

Whoop there it is! Whooooop Congrats to T PA, you put us on the SCORE CARD !

I will be getting back out in the woods within the coming days, I'm in the process of changing jobs which is more important at this time. I've been watching these three bucks hanging near my stand, also a friend has been keeping tabs as well. Luckly for me he hasn't taken the shots since I placed claims to a few of them already...lol now that's a good friend.

ON 10-10-2004 AT 08:38 A.M. I was able to shot this 10 pointer! Have not scored it yet. But we are on the board. If you look at the full body of the deer with leg held up you can see the tag. Out in Indiana..........:):D;)

NICE TRIPLE!!

Yaba Daba DOOOOOOOOOOO, I have a hot location coming up this weekend on some farm land. Last year we took 7 bucks off of it and as I'm told many more are around hasn't been hunted yet this year.

This saturday will tell and I'll keep my faith in a nice harvest. Well I got the new job so, I can now focus on the woods a lil more.

Grunt tubes don't work all the time. That little switch in their head needs to be turned on for it to take effect. Keep at it. Eventually he will respond to the grunt tube.

Just so you guys know I had my score changed. There was some question to it when I originally posted it and I went back and realized some errors were made. I had a friend help me score it and it has since been changed. Brought it down about 6" but I don't think it will matter much in the long run. 6" isn't going to determine this contest and if it does, so what. It's all in fun.

Just checkin in fellas. Have seen 5 different Bucks in the last few days. Things are pickin up. One is a big 8 the others are 6s. I know there are bigger ones. Hope to post something. My season has not been dull-seeing Does daily ( I can hunt most every day if I want) but hold out & hit it real hard the 1st 2 weeks of Nov. in my area. Weather is cooler this year than last so activity may pick up sooner this year. I still have standing corn in my hunting area.
CONGRATS to you that have gotten us on the board. Lets not worry-season is a long way from being over (unless you have filled your Buck tag). Hey, speaking of that. How many Archery Bucks are you allowed in your state-I am only allowed ONE which I think is fine. We do have Bonus Doe tags (so many per county) that became available last year for the 1st time-I have 2 for this year but haven't taken one yet-have had several within 15 yards thou. Sooon, let em bring in the Bucks for now. Keep the news coming.

Allowed one buck here but I still have multiple anterless tags I can fill.

Checked a couple cameras today including one aimed at a fresh rub. Here are the results.

This last picture is interesting. When I pulled this camera I found a very small yearling deer dead about 20 yards away. This picture was take at 1:30 in the afternoon and I believe it is the same deer.
