Hey guys, looks like I've been added to this team from the alternate list. I don't get to spend a whole lot of time on the computer, but that's because I'm in the woods. That is a good thing, right?? ;)

Anyway, a little about myself. I'm 38 years old, and this is my 27th season. Started with a bow at age 12 and since no one in my family bowhunted, or hunted much at all for that matter, I'm pretty much self-taught. I've managed to take a few over the years.

I hunt Ohio and New Jersey, mostly bow hunt, and use a compound (Mathews) and a Sky Archery recurve. I also do a little muzzleloader hunting, but mostly love bowhunting. I have a new wife and two kids as of a few months ago, and tend to work too much, but will manage to get out some this year.

Good luck to all.

Yep, that's me Todd. Can't wait to see them. Hey, since I'm a team member, can you make me the model that sprays the knock-out gas when a big buck trips it. And make the setting for tripping the spray about 140 inches P & Y. That's adjustable, like the delay setting...right? :D

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

I've been squeezing in a few minutes of practice each day for a while now, and am more than ready for Saturday's opener. Last night I matched my arrows to my Thunderheads, and have them flying dead on out to 30 yards. In fact, my Thunderheads, and field points hit on top of each other at that distance on in to 5 yards. At 40 yards, my groups open up a little to about 4 inches, but I don't shoot deer that far anyway, just practice at that distance to make the 30 yards shot seem easier.

I'm also trying spitfires this year, but they seem to fly consistently 2 or 3 inches to the right of the Thunderheads, and they have some wobble in them. The bow is paper tuned, and my arrows fly pretty with Thunderheads, but the spitfires seem to wobble. I've never used them for hunting, and only shot them for the first time the other day, but a buddy bought me a pack to try because he thinks I'm missing something by not using them. I'm not impressed.

No chit, that's pretty wild we got teamed up. Thing is I know you're too busy to hunt so you might as well turn over the Ohio hot spots to me. :D

2nd camera will be done this week. Part got shipped out Friday.

Here's a recent pic a buddy up north sent to me. Same setup as yours.

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

LOL. Now that's quite a shot. Don't worry about Ohio, I'm sure I'll make time to get out there. I have a few decent spots, but the vegetation is so thick, and not many fields, so it's tough to tell what is there. We should have a few nice ones around though.

ahunter55 posted this on a different thread. Looks like he is out of town for a little. I think we are all set for a team!

Greetings team 17. I was born & raised in Illinois but now live on the border IN IOWA. I will be hunting Iowa & Ws.. I will either get nothing or one that makes this one look like a BABY. Let me know where your from.

I had e-mailed DoubleLung about me furnishing a prize for the winning team-well, all you fellas kick this around. How about ALL the Successful Bowhunters e-mail or send me a photo of your animal for this CONTEST ONLY & I will put them ALL on a video-title-music & your name-I will dress it up real nice. (I do video production). For those NOT successful-send a Bowhunting shot & I will put it in the video AFTER the lucky fellas or gals.

Then, I will give the winners their own copy & mail to them. My treat.
For those less fortunate-the finished video will cost $4.00 & $2.00 shipping. This way, everyone can put a name to the face & handle. Just a suggestion, I will let DoubleLung be the decideing factor.
fair enough

GOOD LUCK to all this fall. I am headed for a Exotic/Hog Bowhunt in Texas tomorrow to get practiced up for the WHITETAIL season Oct. 1st..

Greetings again fellas. looking forward to out team taking top honors this 1st year. I always think positive. I have a couple good ones located but then, I have for the last 3 years. I have one that we have had some close encounters but he's managed to stay out of bow range. I plan on lots of Bowhunting Whitetails this year & with my recent trip to Texas for Exotics & hogs know the equiptment is working fine. I wish you all good luck & hope your season is great, no matter what passes your stand-enjoy the time spent in the woods & remember to enjoy your family also. They deserve more attention than the deer-I know, it's hard to think of anything else when Whitetail season is on.. Later.

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

The season opened here yesterday for us in NJ. I didn't get out in the morning, too much to do around the house, but did manage to get out around 2:00pm. I went to check on a trail camera, and in a week only 2 pictures had been taken, so I decided to move it. I wanted to set it up near my stand to see how the deer react, and learned a good lesson. When I went in to the stand, I found a scrape 20 yards from it that wasn't there a week ago.

I set the camera up quietly, and was up in the tree by 3:10pm. At 4:50, a fawn with half it's spots came by and messed around until about 5:05, then walked off. When I turned to look back down the hill I saw movement, and a healthy six-pointer was slowly making his way up the hill. When he saw the camera I had put out, it got his attention. He kept looking at it, doing the head bob, and was definately nervous. He changed direction and tried to circle down wind, but changed course and decided to get out of dodge before he made it to the downwind side. He didn't run, but just sort of trotted off.

Then, right at 7:25, I had a buck with 4 points on one side, and nothing on the other, come in. His forehead was glowing in the dim light. The hair between his antlers was bleach blonde. Pretty good afternoon to start, but I have to take a doe first so I'll work on that.

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

Here is a couple infrared pictures from a camera I converted to see IR. Instead of a white light flash you get a small red blip that is barely noticable. The deer don't seem to notice it.

Not seeing any BIG bucks. Jumped a half decent buck setting a camera up in a different location. I'm in PA and need 3 pts on one side to be legal. He was legal atleast.

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

I went out again yesterday afternoon after work. It was my second time out. I just went to a piece of public land near work to get my doe out of the way, but again, all I saw from the tree was bucks. Hunting in the rain is usually pretty good, and yesterday was no exception. Going in at 3:20pm, I jumped 2 does and 2 fawns on the grassy field road right up against the woods. A white oak was dropping pretty good there, so I guess thats what they were eating. My stand was actually 30 yards inside the edge of the woods off a bean field, just to the north of those oaks. There is also a standing corn field about 300 yards south of the stand, and a grown over field in between the beans and corn.

I sat getting soaked until 6:30 when suddenly I saw a deer move through the holly's to my left. It was gone in a flash, but I saw short spikes on it's head. About 5 minutes later, another spike appeared 5 yards away. He had long, curving spikes and a long body, pretty deer. He will be a heavy buck some day. I drew and held on him for a while, just for practice.

At about 7:05pm, I saw a deer moving through a brushy area up near the field. I couldn't tell how many points, but he had a decent rack. He got in some thick cover, but disappeared, and never made it to the field. I glassed the field before getting down and taking the long route back out and saw 3 does and 3 fawns about 200 yards out into the field. Interestingly, both spikes were directly downwind of me, and never knew I was there, and no, I wasn't wearing Scent Lok.

Still no does in shooting range, but having fun.

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

same here i think either of those are shooters to me i'm no trophy hunter i would love to bag and tag a big "10" but either of those have scoreable points and would put venison on the table. i think it has been said if everyone on the team scores even a small 6 or somthing we could be in the running alot of trophy hunters in other teams that would pass on those i think .

on a side note i just picked up my "NEW BOW" an Archery Research 34 70# 30" draw i was going to get a fall away but went with new biskit instead seem to work great icon stabilizer and a HHA slide single pin sight so i will be doing alot of shooting to get ready for oct 1st opener !!

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

Well, I managed to get a doe to fill the earn-a-buck requirement, so now I'll be trying some observation stands to pinpoint a good buck. The doe I shot was the first with a spitfire broadhead. I was given a pack this year as a gift to try, and my first experience was not that impressive. Sure, it did the job, but the blood trail was not spectactular, as promised, and the deer would have been just as dead with a Thunderhead, which I normally use. Actually, there was very little blood on the ground. The entrance was midway up the body, and the exit out the bottom of the body (the shot was only 5 yards), but the exit hole became plugged up, and after 20 yards, there was no blood. The deer traveled about 80 to 90 yards from the shot.

Good luck to all those starting next weekend.

VaSavage270 09-26-2004 06:40 PM

RE: Official Team "The Unknown Elements" (17) Thread

Nj, Congrats on the harvest

IMO, I shoot spit fires and muzzy's from my experience and hearing many others myopic views. Normally on an exit if the path of the arrow travels through the lower portion there's a greater chance of not seeing a spectacular blood trail and that the exit whole will become plugged. We even spoke about that in the IBEP class today.

Take Notice!! Rules

I thought I would point this out so there is not mistakes when it comes to members entering a buck into the contest. Please make sure you are aware of this rule in particular.

You must have a pictured posted on the contest page within the Official Score Card thread to enter a deer.
The buck must have a tag visable(if tags apply to your state),
the bow must be in the picture
and the entire deer must be in the picture,

no skull pictures, no rack pictures...
the buck, the bow, the tag and yourself must be in the picture
The other rules are found HERE but this one really can mess you up if you don't have the picture taken correctly.

VaSavage270 09-28-2004 02:36 PM

RE: Take Notice!! Rules

The long waited anticipation of the season is almost near! Three nights and a wake up and arrows will go flying!!!..lol I will be taking it easy at work from here out, you know no finger cuts etc..lmao 5 Days off beginning Oct 1 thru the 5 Woahhhhhhh Nelly!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must admit this, if a nice doe comes into range she's down, I need to insulate the deep freezer...lol
