I'm gonna sneak out this afternoon but the spot I'm hunting has a huge overpopulation of does. I'm really going for meat in the freezer. If I'm lucky I might put us on the board but we'll see.

hello boys. I had a pretty busy week out in the woods. I was in the stand thursday morning and evening. I got busted by a doe while I was drawing down on a pretty good buck. I didn't even see her. Friday morning I saw a bunch of deer crossing the field about 150yards from my stand, so the friday night I put up the ground blind in a swee spot, but nothing happened. I went out to a new place tonight, no deer but there were tracks everywhere. I know they were fresh because it rained a couple days ago.

So... needless to say, I haven't killed much other than a squirrel yet this year. My buddy shot a really nice 8pt this weekend. The brow tine is like a 3 inch paddle that curves along the back of his head. I will post some pics when my batteries get charged up.

KS-good luck with your grandfather, I will keep him in my prayers.

good luck guys.

I saw 4 does and 1 small buck friday night. 2 yearlings passed by 40 yds. behind my stand and got busted by a doe 60 yds. away (I still can't figure it out). She was hung up in behind a thicket for about 5 mins. and I couldnt see her so i decided to sit back down. Somehow she saw me and blew at me for 2 mins. Meanwhile another deer 50 yds. to my right paid no attention lol.

It was a fun hunt though.

I was able to go out for one day, on Saturday. Ended up taking a big doe, but I didn't see any big bucks. I saw a lot of scrapes and rubs though. Plus I was able to get the kill on video. Even though it was a doe, i'm was still pretty excited to get the deer on video. Good luck to you guys that are hunting.

Is there any way you can host that video on the internet? I would love to see it.

Way to go now get that buck.

Best of luck to you guys tomorrow morning - and over the weekend! - I will not be getting out this weekend - was out last Sunday morning and had several does behind me - about 40 yards with no shooting lanes. - note to self - cut some holes to shoot through to the trail west of that stand!

Most of the corn is still in, but it is starting to come out so.... it is almost time to play!

Good luck to all - Mike

Thanks guys. I'm not sure of a way to get the video online. Unfortunately it was the greatest footage. My gf was taping it, and she was zoomed out pretty far trying to get both of us in the picture(which she did) rather than on the deer. But either way, it was pretty cool to see and hear the "Twack" and the deer running away.

It's pretty doubtful I'll be able to get out and hunt this weekend. But a week from tomarrow starts my hunting trip out in Western Kansas, for 9 days. I'm getting pumped to go out there after the big bucks I watched and nearly connected with a few time, last year. Good luck to you guys going out this weekend. Hope you guys get a big one.

Hey guys.
I have been spending quite a bit of time in the woods but havn't seen a shooter yet. If you check out the bowhunting forum you will see a nice pic of my sons first deer. He made a good shot and put meat in the freezer for us so now the preasure is off and I don't have to ruin my stand site:D.
The time change is next Sunday so this will be the last week I can hunt after work[&o]. Just no daylight left in the day.
Well good luck to all and shoot big ones!!!

I had two oppurnunities on Saturday to take a doe but came up empty both times. The first was during the moring and with the wind, light rain, and wet leaves i couldnt hear the deer coming from behind me and they snuck through my shooting lane behind me before I could get a shot.[:@]

That night I was at full draw waiting for her to step out from behind a tree and she spotted a cat in the creek she was walking to causing her to walk straight up the hill, right out of my range.[:@]

Oh well

Good luck dmax. I'm going to head out of town tonight for an evening hunt. There are a ton of deer in this area. I hear the bucks are bumping the doe around. Not heavy, but enough to get them moving. So maybe I'll get a shot at a nice buck. Good luck to everyone.

I leave tomarrow morning and heading out to Western Kansas. I will be gone for 9 days. I'm very anxious to see the land and do some scouting. Hopefully I can get a chance at a big mulie or whitetail, last I did last year a couple of times. I'm taking my video-camera along and am going to take a lot of footage. I love the open prairie land. Good luck to you guys. Talk to you all later!

Good luck KS...For our teams sake stay away from those mulies. They only count 83%. Of course unlsee its a monster.:D

Just kidding, hopefully we can get on the board after this wekend.

kshunter 10-29-2004 10:55 AM

RE: Official Team "Non-Typical" (3) Thread

Thanks... my 2 cents on the Mulie 83% rule. It's Bull****####. Anybody who has every tried to kill a Big Mule Deer with a bow would feel the same. Being on the ground, in open country, with a big mule deer is one of the hardest kind of hunts a bowhunter could be successful in, IMO. And taking points away from a person that can do it is wrong. Just my 2 cents.

Good Luck Guys! We'll get some points on the board! :)

Go gett'm guys. We have some catching up to do. Next week our temps are supposed to drop and stay in the 40's during the day. Hopefully that'll kick the bucks into action and I'll be able to tag one for the team. Good luck.

Same here 902. Next weekend, temps in hi 40's, low in 30's. Our fist cold break of the year. A couple other hunters I've talked to say they've been 20-30 deer a day in a spot I'll be hunting.

This weekend had two does bed down 40 yds. from my stand, jst out of range. Me and my buddy sat there til 11a.m. waiting for them to get up.[:@] When they finally did, they walked up the hill and bed down again. We got down and my buddy stalked to within 20 yds. of one (30 mph wind gusts help the stalk) and took a doe.

I have high hopes for this weekend.

RE: Official Team "Non-Typical" (3) Thread

I took another doe today. I was hunting a small (30 yard wide) funnel that deer have no choice but to go through it. I saw 3 doe quickly coming my way. All the deer I've seen come through this funnel jog through it. Must be too tight of an area for them. Anyway I didn't want to shoot a doe, because I was hoping a buck might be following them. But, they stopped dead underneath my stand and started getting nervous. I had some doe estrous and buck tarsal glands out, so maybe they caught wind of them. They started to turn around and head back for where they came. So I took the closest one, hoping they'd run the rest of the way through. No luck, she dropped in her tracks and the other 2 ran back up the trail. Oh well, more meat for the freezer. The bucks are chasing hard now and I'm still confident I'll see more. Good luck guys.

went out this morning and saw two does, but no buck following them. I found a good scrape and a couple of rubs while doing my mid morning scout today. I will be in there this evening to see what I can find. I also saw a good buck today, but unfortunately he was on the viewing area of the Ranger Station. My mouth was watering. He had his head down the whole time chasing a doe. It's on in Oklahoma boys. Good luck

Well, I'm back, and wasn't able to harvest a deer. I arrowed a big mulie on Saturday morning but hit just a little high, and unfortunately the arrowed didn't pass all the way through, so the blood trail sucked. We looked for a few hours without any luck. My buddy I was with arrowed a nice mulie though. I'm guessing it should score around 170-180 typical. I'll post some pictures when I get them loaded to the computer.

I'm going out hunting this weekend, along some good river-bottom. My buddy hunting it Sunday Night, and saw 5 bucks, but only 2 of them were shooters in the 140 class range. This will be my last weekend hunt for probably the rest of the month. Here's a pic of my buddies buck.

Here is all of us in the hunting group

And here is another where I just had to shoot something. I ranged this guy at 39 yards and put a feild-point through his juggler. He was probably about 4 lbs. It was an afternoon spirit-lifter after a hard mornings hunt.

There is only 4 more days to hunt our first archery season. I hope to get out 3 more mornings. The weather has really cooled down here and is supposed to stay that way for the rest of the week. How much longer do you guys have to hunt archery in your states? Our second archery season comes in after Christmas and runs till the 2nd week of January.

My season closes the 19 of Nov. for the gun season and reopens I think on the 29th but I have to check. It will be opened until the first weekend in January but this weekend is my best chance at bagging a buck. So many gun hunters around here that it is very hard to get a quality deer in December. The woods is overrun with blaze orange and all the smart ones go into hiding and stay there.[&o]
I have put in every weekend so far and took Thursday a week ago off to hunt, but nothing has been moving, not even the local deer have been coming out in the daylight. I hope the new moon puts them in a daytime mode otherwise things aren't looking that great this year.
My son and I are going on public land this Sunday and try rattling as a team, setting him up about 50 yards away and trying to play the wind. I have never tried this before but the way hunting has been I think I need a change of plans to change my luck.
Good luck to all.

Well I went out this weekend, and seen some really nice bucks. Saturday morning my girlfriend(who was video-taping) and I watched a couple nice bucks at about 150 yards. One was a typical 8 point maybe 120 class the other had a lot of points and bigger frame, was a really nice buck. But they never came closer. Had a young one come under the stand that I passed on. My buddy hunting the same stand on Sunday morning and seen a total of 7 bucks. He said he had a nice one in the 150 class range at 25 yards but then winded him and took off. So unfortunately no bucks down. Not sure when I'll be able to get out in the near future. It'll probably be closer to the end of the month. Good luck to you guys!
