For my neck of the woods I've got the deer patterned pretty well and I think I will have to wait until the bucks are really tearing up the trees and/or chasing does before I can get near one of the big boys. They have to be travelling this high grass ditch from one bedding area to another before I'll have a shot.

I'll be headed down to southern Illinois this weekend to hunt a particular rub line that I've seen the last couple of years. Last year shotgun I had a terrific 12pt running that rub line. My thought here is to hunt it early this year before the rubs are fully established - and hopefully catch one in the act - maybe even that big 12pt.

Good Luck all!

Well guys,

As some of you have seen on the bowhunting forum, I tagged a big doe on Monday. As of now, I have had 6 encounters with bucks, one big one that isn't legal! The weather is getting hot now after a nice cool start to the season. Today is supposed to be in the mid to upper 70's. I am gonna go to a stand on my property. It is just 35 yards inside the woods from my back yard. I am just gonna head out late, probablly around 5:00 p.m. and be set and ready to go at 5:15. That will give me the last hour and half of hunting light. No reason to spend 4 hours or more just sitting in stand when the deer aren't gonna be moving until late!

OK just letting off steam....

[:@] today at lunch, went to my father-in-laws house, walked behind the barn to see and check my camera. when the neighbor comes MARCHING up the drive, he claims that he can SEE my stand from his kitchen... and demands that i remove it.. i POLITLEY asked him what power binoculars he was using, because it is about 20 acres seperating the two houses, and he gets all flabergasted and huffs and puffs and says to me that his vision is 20/20. so is mine but i cant see his kitchen from my stand without the aid of a 10 power bino. and on top of that im almost positive my eyes are 25+ years younger than his. so tomorrow night after work im wearing my BLAZE ORANGE riffle hunting jacket, and im bringing my telescope and im gonna wave when he gets his binoculars out and scopes me out...

some people are just complainers... all i want to do is HUNT in PEACE!

Hello guys, its friday morning and just getting home from workI will be out hopefully this evening, definately tomorrow morn, sunday morn and monday morn. Its supposed to cool off a bit this weekend hopefully. That should get the bigger bucks moving a little better.
I was out wednesday evening and seen 4 does and a big spike. The spike hung around my stand for about a half hour,it was a blast watching him for that long. The deer still aren't responding to rattling this time of year(believe me i tried)so i'll be grunting sat morn and see what happens.
If I am hunting hard this weekend i may not be back on till mon night,so good luck to everyoneHopefully I can get one for the team this weekend

Hey guys,

I went out yesterday morning and it was slow. At 7:25 a.m. I had a deer run out of the alfalfa field and into the woods I was in. He didn't have a big body so I thought it was a decent doe. Well, he got behind me at about 35 yards and he was in the open and I could see a nice rack on him. He was a 8 point about 16" wide with good mass and great tine length, probablly a 105-110" buck. He looked young and the shot was too far, so he will live to next year. Even if he was closer I would have passed him up. Its too early and I have seen way too many bigguns!

I have tommorow off and will be out most of the day!

Well I added to the count this weekend. My Mathews sent a thunderbolt through a poor unsespecting doe Sunday morning. My dad hasn't emailed me the pictures yet, but when he does I will get them posted and also on my website.

When I was going out last night my wife thought I was crazy. "You just shot one this morning, why are you going out now?" Isn't she crazy? Well I went out last night and ran accross those same 2 bucks that I blew a chance on last weekend. If the keep coming out of the corn like last night, I might get a shot at one. They cut back to the creek about 60 yards away. Then they walked the creek. I couldn't see them, but they went right under me and I could hear them. It was getting dark and it is really thick behind me in the creek. I will see if they follow the same routine tonight though!!

Good luck guys!!
