Well guys, today was the opener here in Pennsylvania.
This morning was terrible. The weather was bad and the deer weren't moving, but it wouldn't have mattered for me as at about 8:15a.m. I had a friggin Red Tail Hawk fly into the open woods I was in and grab a squirrel out of a tree 10 yards from me and start eating it. The squirrel made all kinds of noise and it set off every other squirrel in the woods.
Well, this evening was much better. I went out to my best friends uncles farm and we didn't even scout the area. I went to a old stand we used a few years ago and climbed in. I was in stand at about 4:20 p.m. (I know, it was late but it was pouring so I waited to go out). Well, at 4:35 p.m. I had a button buck come in and bed down beside me at about 15 yards. About 10 minutes later a deer came up from behind me and walked past me at about 4 yards, it was a small 5 pt! He worked his way into the corn field and about 5 minutes after he went in, I saw what I thought was him comming out. I pulled up my binos and saw a HUGE main beam and a G-2 that looked to be pushing a foot long, with GREAT mass. I studied this rack as much as I could (it was behind a screen of brush), and finally the deer got his body into a opening, but this area has a 4 pt per side antler restriction and I believe that this is the big 6 point that we have been seeing. This 6 point has a huge body, his antlers are probablly 20" wide with huge back tines and probablly 6"-7" brow tines. I let him walk and didn't see him again. Then all crap broke loose. Before the day was over, I had seen over 2 dozen deer from the stand with a total of three bucks, none shooters. This stand is looking very good and hopefully Tuesday morning I will be back in it (Tuesday our high temp for the day is supposed to only be 53 degrees compared to upper 60's)
Well, I am tired, I hope ya'll had a good day!

i saw 7 total today , all doe .... only 4 from my stand tho , and 2 going in in the morning and 1 on my way in for tonights hunt! Noone saw a buck out of the 7 of us on the farm so that was strange , but we think they r held up on the hill in the center of the farm that has the thickest cover around , and nothing but food , all apples , and oaks and beech , so u mix food with safety , u got urself a whitetail haven...
Ill give it a week or so before i expect to see some more buck activity here!

Hello guys.Sat morn I woke up at 4:45 went down stairs and it was raining and the wind was just howling,so I decided not to go out till afternoon.About 2 in the afternoon I decided to go out rain or shine and of course it was raining.I was in my stand by 2:45,getting poured on and the wind was up but not to bad,the temp was a nice 12c.In total I seen 2does on stand and a small 3 pointer within range but no shooters. On my way back to the truck I could make out 4 deer heading into the woods but couldent make out what they were.In total 7 deer on saturday.
Well sunday rolls around and see me back in stand for the afternoon, wanted to go out in morn but had to cut wood with the guys in the camp.It was nice out except for the wind again.I sat for about 4 hours before dark and seen a total of 5 does and no bucks.I know the bucks are in there just not moving around yet i think.Well I will be out again tomorrow evening(working mids this week)to give it another go.I will be trying out a new spot. The stand I was in on sat will be used next sat morn.I have found in the past this stand is better in the morn as the deer feed in the field and filter past my stand in the hardwoods going to there bedding area.
Good luck guys and lets keep everyone posted on there adventures.
The bucks will be moving soon,I can feel it

Not much to say...except I blew a chance on a 115-120 class deer.
He was 15 yards away and I needed to turn a little to be ready when he came through my shooting lane. Than a loud clang!! well actually just the zipper on my leg hit my stand really lightly...but sounded like a lound clang to the deer. Off he went. Sorry guys, maybe this just means better things ahead!!
I have passed on 3 button bucks on 3 different occasions.

Hey all. It's slow in Kentucky for now, although I've seen a few smaller bucks. The big news for me is that I'm going to Kansas during the rut, first week of November, and will return just in time to catch the prime rut here in KY. Best of two top states, I'm pumped.
Going with an outfitter and he says that antler growth is phenomenal this year due to the amount of rain they've had. He showed me some pics and one of a 190 + monster.
I'm going again in KY on the weekend of the 16th, then backing off until I get back from Kansas.
Good luck to everyone, glad to see most of you out in the woods. It just doesn't get any better in my opinion.

hey guys , just got in from an awesome night here in PA ! it was our first frost this morning and i didnt go cuz of school. But after school i hit the woods , hunted over a field and at about 4:45 a doe came out with 4 babies.. I let them all go due to the one baby sucking on the does TEET.... then another large doe joined them , but didnt give a shot , after they walked off it was prolly an hour until a doe entered with her fawn , something scared them tho , and i just saw them put up the white flag!!
At 5 until 7 , i heard loud crunching from across the field , and saw a long main beam come from under a tree limb... i got excited , and the buck came straight to me across the field! At 30 yards i realized that he was a 5 pointer , and i didnt wanna take him , as i want to atleast get a mounter this year! i watched him til after dark...
A buddy of mine on team 2 saw a booner that came from a section of woulds i have a stand in , and came downn the main trail taht goes 20 yards from my stand!
Cant wait to get out again!

IM with Rack on this one, hunting HARD in november, although i have taken a doe already because i was out saturday and sunday... no more i hate sweatin buckets while sitting in a tree stand getting barked at by the local squirels.
anyway i might get out this weekend because its supposed to be cold. mmmm
i havent seen a whole lot of buck action... a couple of little ones all 6 pointers and spikes. some of you are letting some big ones pass.
i like the sounds of that.
good luck all
till next time aim straight and shoot true
